Çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye enerji piyasaları hakkında detaylı araştırma yapmak ve ilgili piyasanın makroekonomik değişkenler ile olan ilişkisini ampirik yöntemlerle keşfetmektir. Araştırmaya enerji piyasalarının temeli olan Türkiye Gün Öncesi Piyasası fiyatı tanımına sahip Piyasa Takas Fiyatı ve altı makroekonomik değişken dahil edilmiştir. Çalışmada 2011:12-2021:05 dönemini kapsayan aylık veriler kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada ekonometrik yöntemler olan Hacker ve Hatemi-J (2010) Bootstrap Nedensellik Testi ve Gecikmesi Dağıtılmış Otoregresif (ARDL) Model kullanılmıştır. Tez çalışması Türkiye'de elektrik enerjisi üretimi, tüketimi ve sektör incelemesi ile başlamakta, Türkiye'de enerji piyasalarının tarihsel gelişimi ve genel yapısı hakkında bilgi vermekte, elektrik ticareti yapısı ve işlemleri üzerinde durmaktadır. Literatür araştırması ve ekonometrik metodolojisiyle devam eden çalışma sonuç kısmı ile tamamlanmıştır. ARDL modeline dahil edilen açıklayıcı değişkenler ile Piyasa Takas Fiyatı arasındaki nedenselliğin Hacker ve Hatemi-J (2010) Bootstrap Nedensellik Testi ile sınanması sonucu bütün açıklayıcı değişkenlerin Piyasa Takas Fiyatı'nın nedeni olduğu tespit edilmiştir. ARDL modeli sonuçlarına göre nominal Dolar/TL kuru hem uzun hem kısa vadede, Türkiye toplam elektrik tüketimi ve doğal gaz fiyatları uzun vadede Piyasa Takas Fiyatı'nı artırıcı yönde etki etmektedir. Yenilenebilir enerji kaynaklarından elde edilen elektrik üretim miktarının uzun dönemde, faiz oranının ise uzun ve kısa dönemde Piyasa Takas Fiyatı'nı düşürücü yönde etkileri vardır. Piyasa Takas Fiyatı'nın kısa vadede cari dönemdeki faiz değişkenine ek olarak, birinci ve ikinci gecikmeli faiz değişkeninden de negatif yönde etkilendiği gözlenmiştir. BIST100 endeksinin artışı karşısında, Piyasa Takas Fiyatı kısa dönemde negatif, uzun dönemde pozitif tepkiler vermektedir. Bu bulgunun nedeni tasarruflarını borsada değerlendirmek isteyen yatırımcıların kaynaklarını üretim kanalları yerine hisse senedine aktarmalarının kısa dönemde Piyasa Takas Fiyatı'na talep azalması nedeniyle negatif etki etmesi olarak tanımlanabilir. Uzun dönemde ise borsa yatırımlar ile gelen kaynağı hisse senedi satarak toplayan büyük firmalar yüksek hacimli yatırımlar yaparak enerji taleplerini artırabilirler. Bu doğrultuda üretim yapmak amacıyla artırılan enerji talebi Piyasa Takas Fiyatı'nın yükselmesine sebep olabilir. Elde edilen bulgular, makroekonomik değişkenlerin Piyasa Takas Fiyatı'nı önemli derecede etkiyebileceğini işaret etmektedir. Enerji piyasalarının merkez konumunda önemli bir yere sahip olan Piyasa Takas Fiyatı'nın hareket yönünün analiz edilmesi süreçlerinde makroekonomik göstergeler de yakından takip edilebilir. Enerji piyasaları paydaşlarının finansal piyasalarla olan yapısal ilişkilerinin göz önünde bulundurulması da Piyasa Takas Fiyatı'nın hareketlerinin incelenmesinde önem gösterebilir. The purpose of the study is to conduct a detailed research on the Turkish energy markets and explore the relationship between the relevant market and macroeconomic variables through empirical methods. The research includes the Market Clearing Price, which is defined as the price of the Turkish Day-Ahead Market, and six macroeconomic variables. Monthly data covering the period from December 2011 to May 2021 is used in the study. The econometric methods employed in the research are the Hacker and Hatemi-J (2010) Bootstrap Causality Test and the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) Model. The thesis starts with an examination of electricity production, consumption and sector analysis in Turkey, provides information about the historical development and general structure of energy markets in Turkey, focuses on the structure and transactions of electricity trading. The study continues with a literature review and econometric methodology and concludes with the results section. The causality between the explanatory variables included in the ARDL model and the Market Clearing Price is tested using the Hacker and Hatemi-J (2010) Bootstrap Causality Test, and it is determined that all explanatory variables are the causes of the Market Clearing Price. According to the results obtained from the ARDL model, total electricity consumption and natural gas prices have a positive effect on the Market Clearing Price in the long run, while the nominal USD/TRY exchange rate has a positive effect on both the long and short term Market Clearing Price. Renewable electricity generation has a negative effect on the Market Clearing Price in the long term, and the interest rate has a negative effect on both the long and short term Market Clearing Price. In addition to the current period interest rate variable, it is observed that the Market Clearing Price is also negatively affected by the first and second lagged interest rate variables. The increase in the BIST100 index leads to negative short-term and positive long-term reactions in the Market Clearing Price. This finding can be defined as the negative effect of a decrease in demand for the Market Clearing Price in the short term due to the transfer of resources by investors who want to invest their savings in the stock market instead of production channels. In the long term, however, large firms that collect resources by selling shares can increase their energy demand by making high-volume investments. In this regard, the increased energy demand for production purposes may cause the Market Clearing Price to rise. The findings indicate that macroeconomic variables can significantly affect the Market Clearing Price. In the analysis of the direction of movement of the Market Clearing Price, macroeconomic indicators can also be closely monitored. Considering the structural relationships between energy market stakeholders and financial markets can also be crucial in examining the movements of the Market Clearing Price.
