Alveoler residüel kret rezorbsiyonu kullanılan cerrahi yöntemler veya daha önce mevcut olan bölgesel faktörlerden etkilenerek gerçekleşmektedir. Bununla birlikte, bölgesel faktörlerin etkilerinin ortadan kalkmasının veya etkilerinin azalmasının ardından rezorbsiyonun son şekli sistemik faktörler tarafından belirlenmektedir. Flor vücudun sert dokularını etkileyen kümülatif bir toksindir. İçme suyu canlılar için en başta gelen flor kaynağıdır. Literatürde, florun sert dokular üzerindeki etkilerini inceleyen çok sayıda çalışma mevcuttur. Ancak, literatürde sudaki yüksek düzey florun neden olduğu endemik florozis nedeni ile mandibular KMY (Kemik Mineral Yoğunluğu) ve alveoler residüel kret rezorbsiyonu üzerine etkilerini inceleyen bir çalışmaya rastlamamışlardır. Bu çalışmanın amacı optimumdan yüksek düzey flor almış bireylerin mandibular KMY ve alveoler residüel kret rezorbsiyonlarını incelemektir. Çalışmamıza su kaynaklı endemik florozis bölgesinde yaşayan (doğumdan itibaren) 32 birey ve flor düzeyi düşük bölgelerde yaşayan (doğumdan itibaren) 31 birey katılmıştır. Endemik florozis tanısı sialik asit/glikozaminoglikan oranı kullanılarak konulmuştur. Mandibular KMY (kemik mineral yoğunluğu) değerlendirmeleri DEXA yöntemiyle ve hazırlanan alüminyum stepwedge ile alınan dental panoramik filmlerle gerçekleştirildi. Alveoler kret rezorbsiyonları dental panoramik filmle r üzerinde mandibular korteks kret tepesi ile manbibular korteks mental foramen alt sınırı oranı ve dental alçı ile hazırlanan modeller kullanılarak değerlendirildi. Çalışmanın sonucunda, yüksek düzey florun uzun süreler alımının mandibular KMY'nu artırdığı ve alveoler residüel kret rezorbsiyonunu azaltarak alveoler residüel kret yüksekliğini olumlu yönde etkilediği gözlenmiştir. Initiation of residuel ridge resorbtion has been associated with local factors that originate from the surgical method of extraction or even from factors that were present before extractions. However, systhemic factors seem to determine the final rate of resorbtion of edentulous alveolar ridges after the influence of local causes has decreased with time. Fluorid is a cumulative toxin that effects the hard tissues of the human body. Drinking water is often the main source of fluoride for humans. There are studies in the literature about the effects of fluoride on hard tissues of human body. However, the authors did not find any study in the literature relative to mandibular BMD and alveolar residuel ridge resorption in individuals who were living in hidric endemic fluorosis region. The purpose of this study was to determine the BMD and alveolar residuel ridge resorption of individuals who were living in hidric endemic fluorosis region as in Isparta. Thirty-two persons living in endemic fluorosis area (since birth) and 31 persons who were living in non-endemic fluorosis area (since birth) attended in this study. Fluorosis was also diagnosed in the individuals using the sialic acid/glycosaminoglycan ratio. The BMDs of the mandibles were determined by the DEXA technique and using dental panoramic radiograps that were exposed with aluminum stepwedge. Alveoler residuel ridge resorptions were investigated on stone casts and measured on dental panoramic radiographs using the ratio between mandibular cortex-alveoler crest and mandibular cortex-mental foramen. The results of the study was showed that endemic fluorosis increases mandibular BMD and decreases the rate of alveolar residuel ridge resorbtion.
