Araştırmamızın amacı, "yüz maskesi tedavisi büyüme gelişim dönemindeki çocuklarda etkili sonuç veriyor mu?" sorusundan çok, ""hızlı üst çene genişletilmesi yüz maskesi tedavisinin etkinliğini arttırıyor mu?" sorusuna cevap aramaktır. Bu amaç ile oluşturduğumuz çalışmamızın materyalini, Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi Ortodonti Anabilim Dalı'na tedavi amacı ile başvuran iskeletsel Sınıf III maloklüzyona sahip bireylerden alınan lateral sefalometrik filmler oluşturmuştur. Araştırma grubuna dahil edilen 32 birey, 16'şar bireylik 2 alt gruba ayrılmıştır. Ortalama yaşı 10.84 olan 1. gruptaki 8 kız ve 8 erkek bireye, RME ve yüz maskesi apareyi, ortalama yaşı 10.93 olan 2. gruptaki 8 kız ve 8 erkeğe ise sadece yüz maskesi apareyi uygulanmıştır. Altı aylık tedavi sonucunda, tedavi ile oluşan değişikliklerin grup içi karşılaştırmaları Wilcoxon testi ile, grupların tedavi başı ve sonu değerlerinin karşılaştırılması Mann Whitney U testi ile, gruplar arası farkların karşılaştırılması ise ''unpaired t test'' ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmamızın sonuçlarına göre, 1- Maksiller ve mandibuler iskeletsel değişiklikler gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark göstermemektedir. 2- Palatal plan açısındaki değişiklikler her iki tedavi grubu arasında anlamlı fark göstermemektedir. 3- ANB açısı ve WITS ölçümlerindeki iyileşme miktarı tedavi grupları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark göstermemektedir. 4- Maksiller ve mandibuler dental değişiklikler gruplar arasında benzerdir. 5- Üst dudağın öne doğru hareket miktarı gruplar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark göstermemiştir. The aim of this study was to give an answer to the question "Does RME stimulates the treatment effects of face mask treatment?" rather than to answer to the question " Is face mask treatment effective in growing children?" For this aim, the material of this prospective study was included lateral cephalometric radiographs of 32 patients who were referred to the Department of Orthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, of Suleyman Demirel. University The sample was divided into two groups. Each group included 8 boys and 8 girls. Face mask was applied to the first group (mean age 10.84) simultaneously with RME (RME+ YM) and to the second group (mean age 10.93) without RME (YM). At the end of the treatment period of 6 months, the treatment changes in each group, mean values at the end and start of treatment and the differences between groups were compared using Wilcoxon test, Mann Whitney U test and unpaired t test, respectively. Following conclusions were drawn at the end of the study: 1- Maxillary and mandibuler skeletal changes were similar between the groups. 2- The changes in palatal plane angle showed no statisically significant differences between the groups. 3- Increases in ANB angle and WITS measurement showed no statisically significant differences between the groups. 4- Maxillary and mandibular skeletal changes showed no statisically significant differences between the groups. 5- The amount of forward movement of the upper lip showed no statisically significant differences between the groups.
