Bu çalısmanın amacı; farklı iskeletsel büyüme ve gelisim dönemindeki Sınıf III anomalili çocuklarda hızlı üst çene genisletme aygıtı ile yüz maskesi kullanımının yumusak doku profili üzerine etkilerinin incelenmesidir. Çalısmaya, maksiller retrognati kaynaklı iskeletsel Sınıf III maloklüzyona sahip 45 birey dahil edildi. Bireyler iskeletsel gelisim dönemlerine göre pubertal atılım öncesi, pubertal atılım, pubertal atılım sonrası olmak üzere üç grupta incelendi. Kronolojik yas ortalamaları 1.grupta 9.47 ł 1.24; 2.grupta 11.80 ł 1.44; 3.grupta 13.35 ł 1.81 yıldır. Tedavi süreleri, 1.grupta 7.13ł1.32; 2.grupta 9.17ł2.97; 3.grupta ortalama 7.69ł1.08 aydır. Çalısmamızın materyalini, tedavi öncesi ve sonrası alınmıs toplam 90 adet lateral sefalometrik ve el-bilek radyografileri olusturmaktadır. .statistik metod olarak, sefalometrik ölçümlerden elde edilen verilere faktöriyel düzende tekrarlanan ölçümlü varyans analizi tekniği uygulanmıstır. Arastırmamızın sonuçlarına göre, her üç gelisim döneminde de maksillada ileri yönde yer değistirme ve mandibulada saat yönünde rotasyon meydana gelmistir. Sagittal ve vertikal yönde, iskeletsel ve yumusak doku ölçümlerinde önemli değisiklikler gözlenmistir. Maksilla ve etrafındaki yumusak dokularda ileri yönde anlamlı hareket izlenirken, mandibula ve etrafındaki yumusak dokularda asağı ve arka yönde rotasyon izlenmistir. Yumusak doku değisiklikleri üst dudak ve yumuşak doku çene ucunda daha belirgindir. Yumusak doku profili tüm tedavi gruplarında önemli derecede iyileşme göstermistir. Sonuç olarak, pubertal atılım öncesi ve pubertal atılım gruplarında yüz maskesi ile birlikte hızlı üst çene genisletme tedavisi yumusak doku profili üzerine daha etkili olmasına rağmen pubertal atılım sonrası döneminde de uygun bir tedavi seçeneği olduğu tespit edilmistir. The aim of this study was; to observe the effects of rapid maxillary expansion and face mask therapy on soft tissue profile in children with class III malocclusion in different periods of skeletal growth and development. Study consisted of 45 subjects with skeletal Class III malocclusion characterized by maxillary retrognathism. Subjects were divided in three groups as prepubertal, pubertal and postpubertal according to their skeletal development period. The mean chronological ages for 1. group was 9.47 ł 1.24; 11.80 ł 1.44 for 2. group; 13.35 ł 1.81 years for 3. group. The mean treatment period for 1. Group was 7.13ł1.32; 9.17ł2.97 for 2. group; 7.69ł1.08 months for 3. group. The material consisted of pretreatment and posttreatment 90 lateral cephalometric and hand-wrist radiographs. The cephalometric values of the study were investigated by the Repeated Measurement ANOVA statistical method. The results of this study showed that, forward displacement of the maxilla and clockwise rotation of the mandible occurred in all treatment groups. Important changes were observed from the measurements of skeletal and soft tissue on sagittal and vertical directions. Maxilla and surrounding soft tissues showed significant anterior movement, whereas the mandible and surrounding soft tissues showed a backward and downward rotation. Soft tissue changes were more marked in the upper lip and soft tissue pogonion. The soft tissue profiles improved significantly in all treatment groups. It was concluded that, Although rapid maxillary expansion and face mask therapy may be most effective on soft tissue profile in both prepubertal and pubertal period, it can provide a viable option for postpubertal period.
