Bu çalışmanın amacı, doğum öncesi ve sonrası dönemde maruz kalınan 2.45 GHz elektromanyetik radyasyonun (EMR), ratlarda diş gelişimi ve çürük oluşumuna yatkınlık üzerine etkisinin araştırılması ve laktik asit bakterilerinin mutans streptokoklara (MS) ve çürük oluşumuna karşı koruyuculuğunun incelenmesidir.Çalışmamızda, 24 adet hamile wistar albino rat, deney ve kontrol grubu olarak ayrılmıştır. Deney grubu, hamilelik dönemi ve bu ratlardan elde yavrular ile birlikte laktasyon dönemi süresince 2.45 GHz EMR‟ye maruz bırakılmıştır. Her iki gruba ait 8 yavru rattan; 7, 14 ve 21 günlük olduklarında çene örnekleri alınarak, dişlerin gelişimi, histolojik ve immünohistokimyasal olarak incelenmiştir. Takiben, kalan yavrular 7 gruba ayrılmıştır: A1 ve B1 grubu, karyojenik diyet; A2 ve B2 karyojenik diyet ve L. plantarum 167.P6.5; A3 ve B3, karyojenik diyet ve L. rhamnosus M17-10.2; ve B4, normal diyet. B4 grubu dışındaki yavrular, Streptococcus sobrinus suşu ile enfekte edilmişlerdir. 8 haftalık çalışma süresince, MS sayımları gerçekleştirilmiş ve çalışma sonunda çürük lezyonları değerlendirilmiştir.Çalışma sonuçlarında; makroskobik, mikroskobik ve immünohistokimyasal olarak incelenen çene örneklerinde, gelişim ve apoptotik aktivite açısından önemli bir farklılığın olmadığı görülmüştür.L. rhamnosus uygulanan tüm gruplarda, MS oranlarının düşük olduğu görülmüştür (p < 0.05). MS miktarı ile sulkus çürüğü skorları arasında güçlü pozitif bir ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir (r = 0.507). B4 grubu haricinde, gruplar arasında mikroorganizma sayısı ve çürük skorları açısından farklılık görülmemiştir (p > 0.05).Sonuç olarak, günde iki saat 2.45 GHz EMR‟ye maruz kalmanın, ratlarda diş gelişimi ve çürük oluşumu üzerine etkisinin olmadığı, özellikle doğal ağız florasından izole edilen laktik asit bakterilerinin, MS ve çürük oluşumunu azalttığı gözlenmiştir. The aim of this study is to evaluate developmental effects of prenatal and postnatal exposure of 2.45 GHz electromagnetic radiation (EMR) on teeth and predisposition to caries formation and protection of lactic acid bacteria on mutans streptococci (MS) and caries formation.24 pregnant wistar albino rats were divided into two groups as experiment and control. Experiment group was exposed to 2.45 GHz EMR at pregnancy and lactation period with offspring of these dams. Jaw samples were taken from 8 offsprings from each two groups when they were 7, 14 and 21 days old and teeth development were examined histologically and immunohistochemically.Subsequently, the offsprings were divided into seven groups: group A1 and B1, sugar-rich diet; A2 and B2, sugar-rich diet and L. plantarum 167.P6.5; A3 and B3, sugar-rich diet and L. rhamnosus M17-10.2; and B4, normal diet. The offsprings were infected with Streptococcus sobrinus, excluding those in the B4 group. MS counts were determined during the 8 weeks of study period, and carious lesions were determined at the end of the study.In samples which examined macroscopic, microscopic and immunohistochemical, there were no significant differences in terms of development and apoptotic activity.The MS count ratios were lower in all groups administered L. rhamnosus (p <0.05). A strong correlation was found between the total MS count and sulcal caries scores (r = 0.507). No difference was observed between groups in terms of microorganism count and caries scores excluding those in the B4 group (p > 0.05).As a result, exposition to 2.45 GHz EMR 2 hours in a day does not interfere with development of teeth and caries formation. Lactic acit bacteria especially which have been isolated from the natural oral flora, decreases the number of MS and caries formation.
