Akneli ergenlerin internet kullanım özellikleri ile problemli internet kullanımı, yaşam doyumu, yalnızlık, sosyal kaygı düzeyleri açısından kontrol grubuyla karşılaştırmalı olarak değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma, Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Dermatoloji polikliniğine 1 yıllık süre içinde başvuran 93 akneli ergen ile 93 sağlıklı kontrol üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Kontrol grubu olgu grubuna eğitim düzeyi ve yaş açısından benzer olup cinsiyet açısından birebir eşleştirilmiştir. Olgu ve kontrol gruplarına; Sosyodemografik Bilgi Formu, Yaşam Doyumu Ölçeği, UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği-Kısa Formu, Problemli İnternet Kullanımı Ölçeği-Ergen Formu, Ergenler için Sosyal Kaygı Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Olgu grubuna ayrıca, Akne Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği, Global Akne Derecelendirme Sistemi, Görsel Analog Skala uygulanmıştır. Akneli ergenlerin yaşam doyumlarının kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı oranda daha düşük, problemli internet kullanımlarının ise daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir (sırasıyla, p:0.002 ve p:0.009). Sosyal kaygı ve yalnızlık düzeyleri açısından olgu ile kontrol grupları arasında anlamlı farklılık saptanmamıştır (sırasıyla, p:0.084 ve p:0.072). Akneli ergenlerin yaşam kalitesi ve yaşam doyumu düzeyleri düştükçe problemli internet kullanımlarının arttığı saptanmıştır. Akneli ergenlerde kontrol grubuna göre sosyal paylaşım site üyeliğinin ve internette günlük olarak geçirilen sürenin anlamlı oranda daha fazla olduğu bulunmuştur (sırasıyla, p:0.044 ve p:0.049). Akneli ergenlerin sosyal ihtiyaçlarını karşılamak ve yaşam doyumlarını yükseltmek amacıyla sanal aleme yönelmeleri bu ergenleri problemli internet kullanımına yöneltmiş olabilir. Bu bulgular ışığında; akneli ergenlere multidisipliner olarak yaklaşılması ve psikososyal sorunları önceden tespit edip gerekli önlemlerin alınması hastalığın sebep olacağı sorunları en aza indirgeyecektir.

The aim of this study was to assess Internet use habits, problematic Internet usage, life satisfaction, loneliness, and social anxiety levels in adolescents with acne as compared with a control group. The study was conducted with 93 adolescents with acne and 93 healthy controls who were admitted to the Dermatology Outpatient Clinic of the Suleyman Demirel University Medical Faculty during a one-year period. The control group was similar to the study group in terms of educational level and age, and the two groups were exactly matched in terms of gender. The Sociodemographic Information Form, Life Satisfaction Inventory, Short-form of the UCLA Loneliness Scale, Problematic Internet Usage Scale for Adolescents, and Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents were administered to the study and control groups. The Acne Quality of Life Scale, Global Acne Grading System, and Visual Analog Scale were also administered to the study group. Adolescents with acne were found to have lower levels of life satisfaction and higher levels of problematic Internet usage compared to controls (respectively, p:0.002 and p:0.009). There was no significant difference between the study group and control group in term of social anxiety and loneliness levels (respectively, p:0.084 and p:0.072). It was found that problematic Internet usage was elevated while quality of life and life satisfaction levels were lower in adolescents with acne. Social networking site membership and time spent on the Internet per day were found to be higher in adolescents with acne compared to controls (respectively, p:0.044 and p:0.049). Adolescents with acne may be drawn into problematic Internet usage because they tend to enter the virtual world in order to increase their life satisfaction and meet social needs. In light of these findings, a multi-disciplinary approach, the detection of psychosocial problems, and the taking of necessary measures would likely reduce the problems of the disease.
