Sportif faaliyetlere katılım, tüm dünyada, artış göstermektedir. Bu artış, birçok yararlı etkilerinin beraberinde potansiyel yaralanma riskini de getirmektedir. Sporla ilgilenen bireyler, yüz ve ağız bölgesinde oluşabilecek yaralanmalardan korunabilmek için yüz maskesi, kask ve ağız koruyucu gibi apareyler kullanabilmektedir. Dental yaralanmalardan korunmak için ağız koruyucular daha etkili olmaktadır. Ancak, bu apareylerin kullanımı, sadece zorunlu olan spor dalları ile sınırlı kalmaktadır.Sporcuların ağız koruyucular hakkındaki düşünceleri, spor eğitmenlerinin ağız koruyucularla ilişkili farkındalıkları ve sporcuları yönlendirmeleri, diş hekimlerinin sporla ilgilenen hastalara önerileri sporcuların ağız koruyucu kullanımını etkilemektedir. Bununla birlikte ağız koruyucu kullanan sporcuların edindikleri deneyimler ve ağız koruyucuların spor performansı üzerine etkili olabileceği düşüncesi kullanımı etkileyen faktörler arasındadır.Bu çalışmada spor lisesi öğrencilerinin, spor eğitmenlerinin, diş hekimlerinin ve ağız koruyucu uygulanmış sporcuların ağız koruyucularla ilgili farkındalıkları ve görüşleri değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca, 32 spor lisesi öğrencisine iki farklı kalınlıkta ağız koruyucu hazırlanarak, bu apareylerin spor performansı üzerine etkisi incelenmiştir.Yapılan değerlendirmelerde spor lisesi öğrencilerinin ağız koruyucu kullanma oranları %6,05 olarak belirlenmiştir. Spor eğitmenlerinin %77,6’sının ağız koruyuculardan haberdar olduğu öğrenilmiştir. Diş hekimlerinin %61,5’inin ağız koruyucu önerdikleri belirlenmiştir.Sporla ilgilenen bireyler, ağız koruyucuyu ilk kullandıklarında, problemler yaşayabilmekte ancak bu problemlerde zamanla azalma görülmektedir. Ağız koruyucuların spor performansı üzerine etkisi incelendiğinde, sadece solunum frekansında farklılık gözlenmiştir.Sporcuların ağız koruyucu kullanım yaygınlığını arttırabilmek için diş hekimlerinin ve spor eğitmenlerinin ekip olarak hareket etmesi gerekmektedir. Bununla birlikte ağız koruyucuların spor performansı üzerine olumsuz bir etkisi olmadığı ve sporculardan alınan geri bildirimlerin subjektif olduğu ve zamanla azaldığı belirlenmiştir. Participation in sports activities all over the world, is increasing. This rise brings many beneficial effects with the risk of potential injury. Sports-interested individuals can use to protect against injuries that may occur in the face and mouth, appliances such as a face mask, helmet and mouthguard. Mouthguards are more effective to protect against dental injuries.Idea of athletes about mouthguards, the sports trainers of awareness associated with mouthguards and dentist advice to athletes affects to mouthguard using of players. However, the gained of athletes using a mouthguard and to be effective on sports performance idea are influencing factors the use of mouthguards.In this study, awareness and opinions of sport high school students, trainers, dentists and mouthguard applied athletes about the mouthguard were evaluated. In addition, 32 sport high school students were prepared two different thicknesses mouthguards, were investigated effect of appliances on sports performance.Sport high school students using the mouthguard rate is determined as 6.05%. 77.6% of trainers are aware of the mouthguards. It was determined that % 61,5 of dentists recommend mouthguards.When athletes first use of mouthguards, may also experience problems, but these problems and decreased over time. Examining the effect on sports performance of the mouthguards is only observed differences in respiratory frequency.In order to increase the prevalence of using mouthguards are required to act athlete, trainers and dentists as a team. However, it is not a negative impact of mouthguards on sport performance and is feedback from athletes are subjective and decreases over time was determined.
