Günümüzde nükleer teknolojinin kullanım alanlarının artmasına paralel olarak bu radyasyonlardan korunmanın önemi de artmıstır. Radyasyondan korunmak için kursun gibi değisik materyallerin kullanımı standart hale gelmistir. Ancak betonların en yaygın yapı malzemesi olduğu düsünülürse bu betonların radyasyon zayıflatma özelliklerinin geliştirilmesi daha önemli hale gelmistir. Bu doktora çalışmasında farklı agregalardan üretilmis dört tip ağır betonun gama radyasyonu zırhlama özellikleri incelenmistir. Çalısmada tek tip hafif betonun (.=2,476 gcm-3), olivin kullanılarak üretilmis tek tip ağır betonun (.=2,72 gcm-3) ve farklı oranlarda barit kullanılarak üretilmis iki tip ağır betonun (.=2,994 ve .=3,463 gcm-3) gama radyasyonu zayıflatma özellikleri arastırılmıs, sonuçlar standart zırh malzemesi olan kursun için elde edilenlerle karsılastırılmıstır. Ayrıca barit oranının betonların radyasyon zayıflatma özellikleri üzerine etkisi de incelenmistir. Deneylerde 0,662, 1,173 ve 1,332 MeV enerjili gama ısınlarının ölçümü NaI(Tl) sintilasyon detektörüyle yapılmıstır. Zayıflatma katsayılarının kuramsal hesapları ise 10-3-105 MeV aralığında XCOM kodu ile gerçeklestirilmistir. Çalısma sonucunda barit içeren ağır betonların gama zayıflatma özellikleri açısından diğer betonlardan üstün oldukları belirlenmistir. The radiation protection became more important in parallel with the increase the usage of nuclear radiations in different fields, nowadays. Although, materials such as lead is one of the standard shielding materials, it is important to increase radiation shielding properties of concrete, which is one of the most commonly used building materials. In this thesis, the radiation shielding properties of four types of concretes produced by using different aggregates were investigated. In the study, the gammaray attenuation properties of a single type light weight concrete (.=2,476 gcm-3), a single type heavy weight concrete (.=2,72 gcm-3) including olivine and two types of heavy weight concretes (.=2,994 and .=3,463 gcm-3) including barite at different rates were investigated and the results were compared with the ones obtained for lead, the standard shielding material. The effect of barite rate on the radiation attenuation properties was also inspected. The measurements of 0,662, 1,173 and 1,332 MeV gamma-rays were done by using a NaI(Tl) scintillator detector. For the theoretical calculations of attenuation coefficients at 10-3-105 MeV region, the XCOM code was used. It was concluded that the attenuation properties of heavy weight concretes containing barite were better than the other concrete types. Moreover, it was observed that the attenuation coefficients were effected positively by increasing barite ratio in the concrete.
