Bu tez çalışmasında palmiye kabuğu kökenli aktif karbon (PSAC) ve ticari aktif karbon (TAC) kullanılarak zeytin endüstrisi atık sularından (karasu) fenol kirleticisinin adsorpsiyon yöntemiyle giderimi etkisi incelenmiştir. Kesikli kinetik çalışmalar adsorbent dozu, temas süresi, pH gibi değişen deneysel şartlar altında yürütülmüştür. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, PSAC ve TAC ile fenol adsorpsiyonu sırasıyla 75 dk.da ve 180 dk.da dengeye ulaşmıştır. Elde edilen deneysel veriler lineer regresyon modeli ile açıklanmıştır. Bunun yanı sıra izoterm çalışmaları her iki adsorban ile fenol adsorpsiyonu işleminin hem Langmuir hem de Freundlich izoterm modeli ile açıklandığını belirtirken, kinetik çalışmaları her iki adsorban ile fenol adsorpsiyonu olayının TAC için II. derece kinetik modelin I. derece kinetik modeline, PSAC için I.derece kinetik modelin II. derece kinetik modeline daha iyi uyum sağladığını göstermiştir. Tüm çalışmalar, PSAC.nun doğal ve ucuz bir bitkisel yan ürün olarak alternatif bir aktif karbon örneği olduğunu göstermiştir. In this thesis study, the effect of phenol removal with the adsorption process from olive oil waste water (black water) by using palm shell activated carbon (PSAC) and commercial activated carbon (TAC) was investigated. Batch kinetic studies were carried out under varried exprerimental conditations of contact time, pH and adsorbent dosage. According to obtained results, with the phenol adsorption PSAC and TAC reached to the equilibrium respectively at 75 and 180 minute. The exprerimental data was explained lineer regression analysis.On the other hand, isotherm studies was explained by both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm model, whereas kinetic studies showed that adsorption of phenol with PSAC well fitted to the first- order kinetic model than second-order kinetic model but this condition for TAC was a great contrast to PSAC. All the studies showed that PSAC is an activated carbon type as natural and cheap agricultural waste- product.
