Bu tez çalışmasında tek silindirli hava soğutmalı dizel bir motorun gömlek iç yüzeyinin bor kaplanması sonucu, segman-gömlek arasında oluşan sürtünme direnci ve motor performans değerlerindeki değişimler araştırılmıştır.Motor gömlekleri kutu borlama tekniği ile 780 °C’de 4 saat süre ile borlanmıştır. Borlama işlemi sonucu dökme demir gömlek kesitinde yaklaşık 25 μm kaplama kalınlığı elde edilmiştir. Gömlek yüzeyinde ortalama sertlik 330 HV iken, sertlik yaklaşık dört kat artmış ve ortalama yüzey sertliği 1380 HV değerine yükselmiştir.Borlama sonucu gömlek yüzeyi daha sert, pürüzsüz ve gözenekli seramik bir yapı olan Fe2B’a dönüşmüştür. Borlanmış yüzeyin standart yüzeye göre daha pürüzsüz olması sürtünme direncini iyileştirmiş, daha gözenekli olması ise hidrodinamik yağlama rejiminin daha uzun ve kalıcı olmasını sağlamıştır.Motor performans deneyleri sonucunda mekanik sürtünmeye harcanan güçten yaklaşık %6 oranında bir kazanç sağlandığı ve motor yükünün artırılmasıyla mekanik verimin arttığı gözlenmiştir. Her iki motor efektif verim açısından karşılaştırıldığında, bor kaplama sonucu motorun efektif veriminde %2,4 oranında bir artış olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. In this thesis, correlations of the friction resistance and engine performance between piston ring and cylinder liner have been studied and boronized the inner surface of cylinder liner in a single-cylinder air-cooled diesel engine.The cylinder liners of the engine were boronized using box-boronizing technique at 780 °C for 4 hours. The coating thickness was approximately 25 μm at the cross section of iron cast cylinder liner after boronizing process. Moreover, hardness was improved four times and average hardness at the surface of cylinder liner was increased from 330 HV to 1380 HV.In addition, the surface of cylinder liner has become harder and smoother and evolved into a porous structure as a result of boriding. Borided surface is smoother than standard surface; therefore, friction resistance has been improved. The borided surface is more porous than the standard surface; hence, hydrodynamic lubrication regime has become longer and permanent.As a result of engine performance, mechanical friction power is reduced by 6% boron coating and it has been observed increase in mechanical efficiency when the engine load is increased. As a result of boron coating brake efficiency of engine is increased by 2.4%. Keywords: Piston ring-cylinder friction, tribology of engine, engine and boronizing.
