Bu tez çalışmasında ülkemizde floresan lamba tüketim rakamları ve farklı üreticilerden temin edilen farklı tip yeni floresan lambalar ile toplanan atık floresan lambalardaki cıva içerikleri belirlenmiştir. Atık floresan lambalardan oksidatif liç ve sementasyon prosesleriyle cıva metalinin uzaklaştırılması ve geri kazanılabilirliği araştırılmıştır. Liç ve sementasyon çalışmaları 23 faktöriyel dizayn esas alınarak yürütülmüş, liç çalışmalarında katı/sıvı oranı, reaktif konsantrasyonu, sıcaklık, sementasyon çalışmalarında ise sementasyon süresi, pH ve indirgen ajan miktarı faktörlerinin proses performansı üzerine etkileri belirlenmiştir. Liç prosesinde reaktif çözelti olarak NaOCl/NaCl ve KI/I2 kullanılmış, sementasyon prosesinde ise cıvanın katı forma alınabilmesini saglamak amacıyla indirgen ajan olarak demir (Fe), bakır (Cu) ve çinko (Zn) metalik tozları kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar ANOVA (analysis of variance) yöntemiyle degerlendirilmiştir. En çok tüketilen düz tip olan T8 ve T12 lambaların toplam cıva miktarları sırasıyla 6 mg/lamba ve 12 mg/lamba olarak tespit edilmiştir. Her iki tip lambada da en fazla cıva içerigi (%95) fosfor tozu numunelerine belirlenmiştir. T8 ve T12 tip lambaların pulverize edilmiş (fosfor tozu + cam) ve kütlece eşit miktarda karıştırılmış (%50 T8-%50 T12) numunelerinde NaOCl/NaCl reaktifi ile cıva %95 oranında çözeltiye alınmıştır. En uygun liç şartları 0.5 M NaOCl/0.2 M NaCl liç çözeltisi, 50 g numune miktarı ve 50 0C sıcaklık olarak belirlenmiştir. Sementasyon testleri sonucunda Fe ve Zn cıvanın semente olmasını %100 oranında saglayan indirgen ajanlar olarak tespit edilmiştir. En uygun proses şartları, her iki metal için de 5 dk temas süresi, pH 1 ve 5 g/L indirgen ajan miktarı olarak belirlenmiştir. Zn metali yüksek redoks potansiyeline sahip olması ve Fe tozuna göre %1 oranında daha ucuz olması nedeniyle sementasyon prosesinde en uygun indirgeyici ajan olarak seçilmiştir. Tüm sonuçlar atık floresan lambalardan cıva metali geri kazanımının mümkün oldugunu ve çevresel açıdan etkin bir biçimde uygulanabilecegini göstermiştir. In this thesis, fluorescent lamp consumption in our country as well as mercury contents of the different type of waste fluorescent lamps, which produced by different manufacturers, were determined. Mercury removal from waste fluorescent lamps by oxidative leaching and cementation processes and recovery of mercury were investigated. Leaching and cementation study was carried out according to 23 factorial design. On the leaching studies, solid/liquid ratio, reagent concentration and temperature values obtained, while effects of cementation time, pH and the amount of reducing agent, on process performance evaluated at cementation study. At the leaching process NaOCl/NaCl and KI/I2 were used as a reactive solution, whereas at the cementation process, metallic powders of iron (Fe), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) were used as a reducing agent to fetch mercury in solid phase. Results were statistically analyzed by ANOVA test. Total mercury contents of mostly consumed T8 and T12 type of the lamps was evaluated as 6 and 12 mg lamp-1, respectively. The maximum mercury content (95%) was combined with phosphor powder at both types of the lamps. The mercury could be transferred to the solution (95%) from the pulverized-type (phosphorus powder + glass) and mass-based equally mixed T8 and T12 waste lamps (50% T8 and 50% T12) samples by NaOCl/NaCl reagent. The best leaching conditions determined at 0.5M NaOCl and 0.2 M NaCl leaching solutions, 50 g of sample amount and 50 0C of temperature combination. Cementation test represent that the reducing agents of Fe and Zn were provided 100% of the cementation. The best process conditions for both metals were observed at 5 min contact time, pH 1 and 5 g L-1 of reducing agent amount, respectively. Zn metal powder was selected as the most suitable reducing agent in cementation process due to its higher redox potential as well as 1% cheaper price than Fe metal powder. All results obtained in this thesis has shown that recycling mercury from waste fluorescent lamps is possible and can be applied effectively to the environmental aspects.
