Ağaçlara ilişkin hacim tahminleri, odun kaynağının sürdürülebilir yönetimi, bilimsel araştırma çalışmaları ve pratik ormancılık amaçları için gerekli ve yararlıdır. Ağaç hacim ve biyokütle tahminleri için en güvenilir yollardan birisi gövde çapı ve gövde hacim modelleridir. Eucalyptus grandis (Eucalyptus grandis W.Hill Ex Maiden) ve Eucalyptus camaldulensis (Eucalyptus grandis Dehn.) Türkiye'nin önemli endüstriyel plantasyonlarından ve orman ürünleri sanayinin de önemli hammadde kaynaklarından da birisidir. Sürekli değişen pazar şartları, standartları karşılayacak doğru ve güvenilir çap ve hacim modellerinin geliştirilmesini gerekli kılmaktadır. Maalesef, halen kullanılmakta olan hacim tabloları bu ihtiyacı karşılamak için yetersizdir. Bu çalışma ile Mersin-Tarsus yöresi Okaliptüs plantasyonları için 486 adet örnek ağaç kullanılarak ticari hacim denklemleri geliştirilmiştir. Bu amaçla Fang vd. (2000) tarafından geliştirilmiş uyumlu gövde çapı ve gövde hacim modeli kullanılmıştır. Hiyerarşik bir kümelenme gösteren verilerde, veri yapısında var olan otokorelasyonun ortadan kaldırılması için ikinci derece otoregresive hata yapısı kullanılmıştır. Geliştirilen gövde çapı ve gövde hacim modelleri çap ve ticari hacim tahminleri için başarılı sonuçlar vermiştir. Çap tahminlerindeki hata test verileri için 0.23 cm'den, gövde hacmindeki hatalarda 0.02 m3'den daha az bulunmuştur. Buna ilaveten gövde üzerindeki değişik noktalar için geliştirilen modellerin doğruluğunu ve güvenilirliğini belirlemek için çap sınıfları, boy sınıfları ve 10 farklı noktadaki çap ve hacim tahminleri yapılmıştır. Farklı okaliptüs türlerinde, çap ve ticari hacim tahminleri için farklı gövde çapı modellerine ihtiyaç olup olmadığı F-testi ile ortaya konmuştur. Yapılan değerlendirmelerde, farklı okaliptüs türleri için farklı çap ve ticari hacim denklemlerinin kullanılması gerektiği ortaya çıkmıştır. Geliştirilen gövde çapı ve gövde hacim modelleri kullanılarak okaliptüs türleri için ilgili yörede daha doğru çap ve hacim tahminleri yapılabilir.
Determination of stem standing volume is very useful for both research and practical purposes in forestry, and contributes to the sustainable management of timber resources. Taper equations are the best way to estimate volume for saw timber and biomass purposes. Eucalyptus plantations (Eucalyptus grandis W.Hill Ex Maiden and Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehn.) are major components of industrial plantations in Turkey and important raw material of forest products industry. With ever changing market conditions, there is a need to accurately estimate tree volumes utilizing multiple upper stem merchantability limits. This is not currently possible with the existing total stem volume tables for these three species. A merchantable volume system for Eucalyptus plantations in Tarsus-Mersin District was developed from data corresponding to 486 sampled trees. For this aim, we were used compatible stem taper and volume equations of Fang et al. (2000). A second-order continuous-time autoregressive error structure was used to correct the inherent autocorrelation in the hierarchical data. The proposed models generally performed better for Merchantable tree volume. The errors in diameter prediction and volume prediction are less than 0.23 cm and 0.02 m3 for validation dataset. To test the effectiveness of developed models more closely, estimates of stem diameter and merchantable volume estimation were evaluated by dbh class, height class, and at ten heights above ground level. To test the differences of taper equations among different eucalyptus species, F-test was used. The non-linear extra sum of squares method indicated differences in eucalyptus species-specific taper equations. Therefore, for each species a separate set of parameters for taper equation that identifies the unique bole shape is needed.
