Bu çalışmada; LPG dönüşümlü buji ateşlemeli bir motorda Termoelektrik Jeneratör yardımıyla geri kazanılan egzoz ve soğutma suyu kayıp ısı enerjisinin elektroliz ünitesinde hidrojen gazına dönüştürülerek ilave yakıt olarak kullanılmasının motor performansı, yakıt tüketimi ve egzoz emisyonlarına etkisi deneysel olarak araştırılmıştır. Bu kapsamda; egzoz gazı, motor soğutma suyu ve LPG yakıtının paralel ve ters yönde akışının sağlanabileceği 5 katmanlı bir eşanjör tasarlanarak alüminyum malzemeden imal edilmiştir. Deneysel çalışmalar, motorun rejim sıcaklığında, 1500-4000 d/d aralığındaki 6 motor devrinde 3 deney gurubu için gerçekleştirilmiştir. 1. gurup çalışmalarda, 5 katmanlı eşanjör sisteminde paralel ve ters akışlı eşanjör düzenlemesi ile elde edilen sonuçların karşılaştırılmıştır. 2. gurup çalışmalarda, 5 katmanlı eşanjör ve LPG eşanjörünün kullanılmadığı 3 katmanlı eşanjör düzenlemesinde elde edilen sonuçlar karşılaştırılmıştır. 3. gurup çalışmalarda, 5 katmanlı ters akışlı eşanjör düzenlemesi ile üretilen DC elektrik gücü tarafından şarj edilen batarya gurubunun beslediği su elektroliz ünitesi tarafından üretilen hidrojenin motorda ilave yakıt olarak kullanılmasının güç, tork, yakıt tüketimi ve emisyon değerlerine etkisi tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlardan; 5 katmanlı termoelektrik jeneratörde ters akış ile paralel akışa oranla daha yüksek DC elektrik gücünün elde edildiği, 5 katmanlı eşanjör ile 3 katmanlı eşanjöre oranla motor devri ile %13-28 aralığında değişen daha yüksek DC elektrik gücü elde edildiği ve üretilen DC elektrik gücü tarafından şarj edilen batarya gurubu ile çalıştırılan su elektroliz ünitesinde üretilen hidrojenin motora ilave yakıt olarak verilmesiyle farklı motor devirleri için, motor devrinde ≈ 21 - 55 d/d'lık artış, motor güç ve tork değerlerinde ≈ % 1,5 - 6,6'lık artış, yakıt tüketiminde ise ≈ % 0,6 - 3,9'lık azalma tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca ilave hidrojen gazının, silindir içi yanma şartlarını iyileştirerek artan yanma sıcaklığı ile birlikte NOX ve CO2 emisyonunda artışa, HC ve CO emisyonunda ise azalmaya sebep olduğu tespit edilmiştir. In this study; the effects on engine performance, fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of hydrogen, used as an additional fuel, produced in an electrolysis unit powered by the electric energy recovered via a Thermoelectric Generator from the exhaust and cooling water heat losses of a spark ignition engine fuelled with LPG was experimentally investigated. In this context, a 5-layer heat exchanger, in which exhaust gas, LPG fuel and engine coolant can be provide to flow in parallel and opposite directions, is designed and made of an aluminum material. Experimental studies were performed at engine regime temperature, in the range of 7 different engine speeds between 1500-4000 rev/min and for 3 sets of experiments. In the first group of studies, the results of parallel and counter flow arrangements in the 5-layer heat exchanger system were compared. In the second group of studies, in which the 5-layer heat exchanger and LPG exchanger were not used, the results of three-layered heat exchanger arrangement were compared. In the third group of studies, the effect on the engine power, torque, fuel consumption and emissions of hydrogen usage as an addition fuel produced by water electrolysis unit which is powered by a rechargeable battery group charged by the DC electricity produced in 5-layer heat exchanger have been identified. From the results obtained, it is found that the more DC electric power than the power produced at parallel flow conditions was produced at conditions of counter flow in a five layer thermoelectric generator. It is also found that about 13-28% more DC electric power (depending on the engine speed) in five layer heat exchanger was produced than that of in three layer heat exchanger. By introducing hydrogen, to the engine as additional fuel, produced in water electrolysis unit run by battery group recharged by the DC electrical power produced for different engine speeds about 21 - 55 d/d increase in engine speed ≈ 1,5 % - 6,6 % increase in engine power and torque values and about 0,6 % - 3,9 % reduction in fuel consumption were obtained. Furthermore, by improving in-cylinder combustion conditions with additional hydrogen gas and higher flame temperatures, it has been found to be resulted in an increase in NOx and CO2 emissions and a decrease in HC and CO emissions.
