Boksit cevherleri, alüminyumun yanı sıra galyum ve vanadyum gibi stratejik öneme sahip metaller de içerir. Bayer prosesi liç çözeltileri ve atıkları bu metaller açısından önemli bir kaynak konumundadır. Ancak yapılan çalışmalar büyük ölçüde liç çözeltilerinden metal kazanımı ile sınırlıdır. Seydişehir Eti Alüminyum A.Ş. tesisinde halen galyum üretimi yapılmamakta, çöktürülerek uzaklaştırılmasına rağmen vanadyum keki, düşük metal içeriği ve içerdiği safsızlıklardan dolayı değerlendirilememektedir. Bu tez çalışması çerçevesinde, Bayer prosesi atıklarından vanadyum, galyum ve alüminyumun geri kazanımına yönelik olarak çevresel, teknik ve ekonomik açıdan potansiyele sahip kimyasal liç ve kazanım yöntemleri araştırılmıştır. Yapılan çalışmalarda atık yan ürün olarak vanadyum keki ve nispeten yüksek galyum içeriğine sahip olan elektrofiltre tozu kullanılmıştır. Bu atık yan ürünlerin fiziksel ve kimyasal açıdan karakterizasyonu ve atık özelliklerinin kimyasal liç yöntemlerinin seçimine ve gelişimine etkisi irdelenemiştir. Genel olarak proje kapsamında asit-baz çözücü sistemleri ve bu reaktiflerin etkileri üzerine çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Yine proje kapsamında, solvent ekstraksiyon ve elektroliz gibi mevcut yöntemlere alternatif olarak, seçimli çöktürme esasına dayalı saflaştırma ve kazanım yöntemleri araştırılmıştır. Tez çalışması üç aşamada gerçekleştirilmiştir. Birinci aşamada, Eti Alüminyum A.Ş.'den temin edilen vanadyum keki ve baca tozu temsili örneklerinin detaylı karakterizasyonları yapılmıştır. İkinci aşamada laboratuvar ve yarı-pilot ölçekte kimyasal liç, çöktürme testleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Spesifik olarak: (1) kimyasal liç aşamasında en uygun reaktif sistem (asit/baz) tespit edilmiş; (2) farklı reaktiflerin performansı ve katı/sıvı oranı, sıcaklık, liç süresi ve reaktif derişimi gibi parametrelerin liç verimine etkisi tam faktöriyel deney tasarımı yöntemine göre belirlenmiş, elde edilen sonuçlar ANOVA (varyans analizi) yöntemi ile değerlendirilmiş ve ampirik modeller oluşturulmuş, kimyasal liç sonrası uygulanacak çöktürme işleminde en etkin reaktifler belirlenmiştir. 3.aşama sonunda elde edilen tüm laboratuvar ve yarı-pilot test verileri ışığında, teknik ve ekonomik açıdan uygun bir proses akım şeması geliştirilmiş ve gerçek tesis uygulaması için ön tasarım parametreleri belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler değerlendirildiğinde, yarı-pilot ölçekli liç testlerinde elektrofiltre tozu ve vanadyum kekinde sırasıyla NaOH liçi ile %32,5Ga, H2SO4 liçi ile % 94,8 V kazanımı elde edilmiştir. Çöktürme testlerinde, yarı-pilot ölçekli liç testlerinden elde edilen liç çözeltisinden Ga ve V çöktürülerekkazanılmıştır. Son aşamada, ekonomik modelleme çalışmaları kapsamında tesis simülasyonu oluşturulmuştur. Simülasyon ile tasarlanan tesisinekonomik olarak uygulanabilir olduğu belirlenmiştir. Tez kapsamında yapılan çalışmalar ile elektrofiltre tozu ve vanadyum keki atık yan ürünlerinden Ga ve V geri kazanılarak, atıkların ikincil kaynak olarak değerlendirilmesi öngörülmüştür.Proje Bayer prosesi atıklarından metallerin geri kazanımı, atıkların yönetimi ve ülkemizin doğal kaynaklarının korunması ve verimli kullanılması yönüyle de önemlidir. However, earlier studies have concentrated essentially on the recovery of metals from leach solutions in that solid wastes received only very limited attention. In Seydişehir Eti Aluminium Corporation plant, there is no gallium production and despite its removal from leach solutions as vanadium cake, it is stored as a waste with economic return due to its relatively low vanadium, but, high impurity content. Within the framework of this project, research and development of environmentally acceptable, technically sound and low-cost chemical leaching and recovery methods were conducted for the recovery of valuable metals as vanadium, gallium and aluminium from the wastes ofthe Bayer process. Vanadium cake and electrofiltration dust with a relatively high content of gallium as waste by-products of Bayer process were used in this project. Physical and chemical characterisations of these wastes were initially performed to evaluate effects of waste characteristics on selection and evolution of chemical leaching methods. In this project, the studies focused on acid and base solvent systems and effects of these reagents. As an alternative to solvent extraction and electrolysis, solution purification and metal/compound recovery methods on the basis of selective precipitation were projected to be investigated within the scope of the project. This thesis was conducted in three phases. In the first phase, representative samples of vanadium cake and flue dust obtained from Eti Aluminum Inc. were characterized in detail. In the second stage, all laboratory and semi-pilot scale experiments including chemical leaching and precipitation tests were conducted. In this stage, specifically, (1) suitable reagent system (acid/base) for the chemical leaching step in terms of costs and environmental impacts, and (2) performances of different reagents and effects of the parameters including pulp density, temperature, leaching duration and reagent concentration on metal recovery yield were determined according to full factorial design method, the results were evaluated by ANOVA (analysis of variance) method and empirical regression models were established, most effective reagent for precipitation/recovery operation was identified. In the third stage, based on the laboratory and semi-pilot data a suitable flowsheet was developed for a technically and economically feasible process. Preliminary design criteria for full-scale applications was also determined. When all the results were evaluated, in semi-pilot scale leaching tests; 32.5% Ga recovery with NaOH and 94.8% V recovery with H2SO4 were obtained in electrofilter dust and vanadium cake samples respectively. In precipitation tests, Ga and V were recovered from the leach liquors of semi-pilot scale tests. In the last phase, process simulation was created within the scope of economical modeling studies. It was obtained that metal recovery plant designed by simulation was economically feasible. Within the thesis works, Ga and V were recovered from electrofilter dust and vanadium cake as waste by-products allowing utilization of wastes as secondary resources. This project for the treatment of wastes of Bayer process for metal recovery is also important for the management of these wastes and for the preservation and effective exploitation of natural resources of Turkey.
