Bu çalışmada, kent ve meydan kavramları ve meydanın oluşumunda etkili olan faktörler hakkında toplanan literatür verileri ışığında, öncelikle Burdur Cumhuriyet Meydanı özelinde çevre yapılar, ulaşım arterleri ve kullanım özellikleri açısından mekânsal analizler yapıldı. Daha sonra kullanıcı gruplara sorular yöneltilerek meydanın peyzaj tasarımı hakkında anket yapıldı. Burdur Cumhuriyet Meydanı özelinde yapılan mekânsal analizler neticesinde; meydanın mevcut durumda kentin ne tören alanı işlevini ne de sosyalleşme ve kültürel aktiviteleri paylaşma işlevlerini tam anlamıyla karşılayamadığı, meydanın çevresini kuşatan taşıt yollarının kentin diğer odak noktalarından ve kültürel alanlarından kopardığı belirlendi. Cumhuriyet Meydanının işlevsel analizi ve diğer kentsel odaklarla ilişki ağları yanı sıra, meydan ve yakın çevresine yönelik mevcut ulaşım sistemi, görsel değerleri ve peyzaj özellikleri incelendi. Anket çalışmaları neticesinde ise, meydanın yapısal ve bitkisel peyzaj özellikleri hakkında kullanıcıların düşünceleri tespit edildi. Özellikle meydanın tasarımına girdi sağlamak amacıyla, meydanı çevreleyen binalar ve cephelerinin özellikleri ile meydanda olmasını istedikleri kentsel değerlerin ve aktivitelerin neler olabileceği hakkında veriler elde edildi. Bu çalışmanın sonucunda; Cumhuriyet Meydanı'nın yakın çevre kentsel odaklar ile bütünleşme sağlayamadığı, kentin ana meydanı ve tören alanı kimliği ile örtüşen özellikleri yerine getiremediği, yapısal ve bitkisel peyzaj yetersizlikleri sergilediği ve kentsel karakterinin zayıfladığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. In this study, the urban square concepts and literature data collected about the effective factors in the formation of the square of the light, Burdur Republic Square in particular, the spatial analysis were made in terms of the buildings and their facades surrounding it, and transportation arteries. Then questions to user groups were surveyed about orienting landscape design of the square. As a result of spatial analysis made in the Burdur Republic Square particularly; challenge to the current situation in the town's what the parade ground function nor that meet fully the functions share socializing and cultural activities, the city's road vehicles surrounding the square perimeter was determined to break from the other focal point, and cultural areas. As well as the functional analysis of the Republic square and relationship networks with other urban nodes, the existing transport system and visual value of landscape features in the square and its vicinity were examined. In the survey result, thoughts about landscaping features that users of the media were determined. In particular, in order to provide input to the design of the square, data about the characteristics of the surrounding buildings facades and user's requests about urban values and activities what might be in the square were obtained. In the results of this study, it has been reached that this square can not provide integration with the city's other nodes and could not fulfill the characteristics coincide with parade ground identity and the city's main square and exhibits landscaping deficiencies and then the weakening of the urban character.
