Teknolojik gelişmelerle beraber ileri teknoloji cihazlardan olan dış iskelet robotlar insan kas sinir sistemiyle tam uyumlu esnek ve kararlı biyomimetik hareket yeteneklerini sağlamak zorundadırlar. Yaygın olarak bu amaçlar için dış iskelet robotlarda sertliği değiştirilebilir eyleyiciler kullanılmaktadır. Biyomimetik yetenekleri insan vücudu için tam olarak yansıtmakta tek başına yeterli olmayan bu eyleyicilerin, sönümlemesi değiştirilebilir eyleyicilerle beraber kullanılması, çevresel bozucu etkilere karşı güvenli, esnek ve kararlı hareket yeteneği sunmaktadır. Böylece oluşturulacak değişken empedanslı karma (hibrit) eyleyicilerle eklem hareketleri taklit edilerek insan vücuduyla tam uyum içerisinde olan yeni nesil dış iskelet robot eklemleri geliştirilebilecektir. Manyeto-reolojik (MR) damperler, kompakt hacimlerde maksimum torku, kolay kontrol edilebilirliği ve düşük güç tüketimi gibi avantajlarıyla özgün damper türlerinden olmaktadır. Bu tez çalışması, T-şekil rotorlu çok kutuplu, stator sarım çok kutuplu ve rotor sarım çok kutuplu türlerinde 3 çeşit MR dampere ait tasarım, analiz, optimizasyon, üretim, karakterizasyon, deneysel test, seçim ve seçilen optimum MR damper olan T-şekil çok kutuplu MR damperin dış iskelet robot ayak bileği eklemine adaptasyonu çalışmalarını içermektedir. Bu tez çalışmasına dış iskelet robotların gelişimi ve çalışma ilkeleri ile ilgili gerektiği kadar ayrıntı içeren özet bilgiler ile başlanmış olup, akabinde tasarlanan MR yapının çalışma ilkesi matematiksel anlamda benzetim ile modellenerek sunulmaktadır. Tasarlanan MR damperlerin geliştirilmesi yürütülürken frenleme torkunu belirlemek amacıyla manyetik devre analizleri kullanılarak analitik modeller geliştirilmiştir. Sonrasında, manyetik sonlu elemanlar analizleri yürütülmüş ve bir gömülü optimizasyon algoritması ile bütünleştirilerek MR damperlerin en yüksek torka ulaşmak için haiz olması gereken optimum geometrik boyutları optimizasyon süreci sonunda belirlenmiştir. Ulaşılan sonuçlar ışığında karşılaştırılan dönel MR damperler, aynı boyutlarda üretilmekte ve eyleyicilerin tork, kompaktlık, tepki süresi, histerezis davranışı, yörünge takibi gibi açılardan performanslarını belirlemek amacıyla MR damper tasarımları deneysel anlamda teste tabi tutulmuştur. Sonuçlar, T-şekil çok kutuplu rotor dönel MR damper tasarımının diğer iki tasarım türüne göre çok daha başarılı, yeterli ve güçlü sonuçlar sunduğunu göstermektedir. En son olarak söz konusu T-şekil rotorlu çok kutuplu dönel MR damper sönümlemesi değiştirilebilir bir eyleyici olarak, sertliği değişebilir eyleyici ile paralel çalıştırılarak bir dış iskelet robot ayak bileği eklemine uygulanmıştır. As high technological devices with the advanced technology, exoskeleton robots should present flexible and stable biomimetic movement behaviours that are completely adaptive with human neuro-muscular system. Commonly, the variable stiffness actuators have been used in exoskeleton robots for these goals. The variable stiffness actuators are not enough alone to reflect biomimetic movement abilities entirely; thus, employing them along with variable damping actuators can present more safety, flexible and stable movement abilities againts environmental disturbances. In this way, next generation exoskeleton robots that can simulate joint behaviours and are entirely adaptive with the human body will be able to be improved with using these variable empedance hybrid actuators. Rotational Magneto-reological (MR) dampers are the most promising variable damping actuators with their serious advantages such as high torque capability within compact volumes, easy control interface, low power consumption. In this thesis, the design, analysis, optimization, characterization, manufacture of three different multi-pole structured rotational MR dampers (T-shaped rotor, inner coil and outer coil) are being discussed and selection of the optimum one as T-shaped multi-pole rotational MR damper and its implementation to the exoskeleton ankle joint along with the variable stiffnes actuator are being discussed. This study begans with exoskeleton robots development and operational principles by giving enough summary information; then, mathematical foundation of the designed rotational MR dampers are presented comprimising modelling. To determine maximum passive torque of three rotational MR damper designs, analytical models are developed by using magnetic circuit analysis. Then, to achieve maximum torque goal, magnetic finite element analysis was conducted with an empedded optimization algorithm to optimize geometrical parameters of rotational MR dampers. Finally, these rotational MR dampers are manufactured in the same outer dimensions with the same materials based on magnetic results and tested experimentally in the view of some points such as torque performance in compact volume, maximum torque, transient reponse, hyteresis effect, torque tracking performance. The performance comparison of the rotational dampers showed T-shaped multi-pole rotational MR damper design has superior characteristics compared to two other designs. Therefore, T-shaped multi-pole rotational MR damper design is coupled with a variable stiffness actuator and implemented in ankle joint of an exoskeleton robot.
