Bu tez çalışmasında Tükiye'de yatişen önemli ağaç türlerinden olan Toros sediri (Cedrus libani A.Rich.), Kızılçam (Pinus brutia Ten.), Sapsız meşe (Quercus petraea Lieble), Doğu kayını (Fagus orientalis L.) odunlarının bazı ortotropik mekanik özellikleri ve bu özelliklere rutubet ve sıcaklığın etkisi incelenmiştir. Ortotropik özellikler ahşap malzemenin yük altındaki davranışının modellenmesinde önemlidir. Çalışmada lif, radyal ve teğet yönlerdeki Young modülü (EL, ER, ET), basma dirençleri ve poisson oranları (ʋLR, ʋLT, ʋRL, ʋRT, ʋTL, ʋTR) hesaplanmıştır. Kızılçam ve Toros sediri tomrukları Burdur-Bucak yöresinden, Sapsız meşe ve Doğu kayını tomrukları Zonguldak-Devrek Dorukhan tüneli mevkiinden temin edilmiştir. Elde edilen tomruklardan kesilen radyal ve teğet yönde latalardan kusursuz örnekler hazırlanmıştır. Rutubetin bazı ortotropik mekanik özelliklere etkisinde üç farklı yönde (L, R, T) 20x20x600 mm ölçülerinde hazırlanan deney örnekleri, Zürih Federal Teknoloji Enstitüsü (ETHZ) Odun Fiziği laboratuvarının iklimlendirme odalarında 20°C sabit sıcaklık ve %50, 65, 85, 95 bağıl nem şartlarında 8-10 hafta bekletilerek uygun rutubet seviyelerine gelmeleri sağlanmıştır. Kondisyonlama işleminden sonra gerçekleştirilen basma testleriyle gerilme ve şekil değiştirme eğrileri elde edilerek elastik ve direnç özellikleri hesaplanmıştır. Sıcaklığın bazı ortotropik mekanik özelliklere etkisinde eğilme (eğilme direnci, eğilmede elastikiyet modülü) ve üç yönde basma testleri (basma direnci, Young modülü, Poisson oranı) yapılmıştır. Eğilme örnekleri 20x20x350 mm, basma testi örnekleri 20x20x60 mm ölçülerinde hazırlanmıştır. Deney örnekleri dört farklı sıcaklık (120-150-180-210°C) ve üç farklı sürede (2-5-8 saat) atmosferik ortamda etüvde sıcaklığa maruz bırakılmıştır. Her sıcaklık grubuna ait kontrol örnekleri kullanılmıştır. Deney örnekleri sıcaklığa maruz bırakıldıktan sonra %64±1 bağıl nem ve 20±0.2°C sıcaklıkta kondisyonlanarak SDÜ Orman Fakültesi mekanik test laboratuarında test edilerek elastik ve direnç özellikleri belirlenmiştir. Çalışma sonuçlarına göre rutubetin elastik ve direnç özellikleri üzerinde önemli etkisi olduğu görülmüştür. Rutubet miktarının artması ile üç yönde (L, R, T) basma direnci ve Young modülü değerleri azalmıştır. Rutubet miktarının artması ile genel olarak Poisson değerlerinde artış gözlenmiştir. Sıcaklık ve uygulama süresinin de elastik ve direnç özellikleri üzerinde etkisi olduğu görülmüştür. Liflere paralel ve teğet yönlerde basma direnci değerleri genellikle 120-150°C sıcaklık uygulamalarında önce bir miktar artarken sıcaklığın yükselmesiyle (180-210°C) azalmıştır. Radyal yönde bütün sıcaklık uygulamalarında basma direnci değerleri azalmıştır. Young modülü değerleri genellikle üç yönde de önce bir miktar artarken sıcaklık uygulamasının artmasıyla azalmıştır. In this study, some orthotropic properties and effect of moisture content (MC) and temperature on these properties of Cedrus libani A.Rich., Turkish pine (Pinus brutia Ten.), sessile oak (Quercus petraea Lieble) and oriental beech (Fagus orientalis L.) wood which are native and important species of Turkey were investigated. Orthotropic properties are important due to modelling of wood material behavior under loading. Young modulus and compression strength in Longitudinal, Radial and Tangential direction and Poisson ratios (ʋLR, ʋLT, ʋRL, ʋRT, ʋTL, ʋTR) were calculated. Turkish pine and Cedrus libani logs harvested from Bucak, Burdur while sessile oak and oriental beech logs from Devrek, Zonguldak. Clear wood specimens prepared from radial and tangential laths cut from these logs. To determine the effect of MC on some orthotropic mechanic properties of wood, 20x20x600mm test specimens prepared both for L, R and T directions. And then specimens conditioned approx. 8-10 weeks at 20°C constant temperature and 50, 65, 85, 95% RH in conditioning chamber at Wood Physic lab of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich to provide proper MC. After conditioning, stress and strain curves obtained from compression test and elastic and strength properties calculated. To determine the effect of temperature on some orthotropic properties of wood, bending (bending strength, modulus of elasticity) and compression test in three principal directions (compression strength, Young modulus and Poisson ratio) were conducted. Dimensions of bending and compression specimens were 20x20x350mm and 20x20x60mm respectively. Specimens exposed to 120-150-180-210°C temperature for 2-5-8 hours by using a vacuum furnace (nüve) in an atmospheric environment. Each temperature group has its own control specimens for matching. Test specimens were conditioned at 20±0.2°C and 64±1%RH after exposed to temperature. And then elastic and strength properties were determined by testing with Universal Test Machine in Mechanics Lab of Suleyman Demirel University. According to the results, it is found that MC has significant effects on elastic and strength properties. Compression strength in both principal directions (L, R and T) and Young modulus values decreased while MC increases. Poisson ratios effected less than others by MC but in general an increase observed on Poisson values while MC increases. Also, it’s found that temperature and exposure duration have effect on elastic and strength properties of wood. Compression strength in L and T directions generally slightly increased at 120-150°C treatments and then decreased at 180-210°C treatments. Compression strength values in R direction decreased for all temperature groups. Generally values of Young modulus in all principal directions increased modestly at first but then decreased with increased temperature.
