Endüstriyel teknolojiler, insanoğlunun ihtiyaçlarını karşılayabilmek için dünya genelinde değişik açılardan dev gelişmeler kaydetmiştir. Makine mühendisliği alanında, ısı eşanjörleri, enerji santralleri, nükleer reaktörler, soğutma ve iklimlendirme sistemleri, ısı geri kazanım sistemleri, kimyasal işleme ve gıda endüstrileri gibi mühendislik uygulamalarındaki artış ile birlikte her zamankinden daha fazla önem kazanmıştır. Tanınmış ısı eşanjörleri arasında sarmal boru, küçük bir alanda büyük ısı transfer alanı, yüksek ısı transfer katsayısı sağladığı için en etkili tipte olandır. Mevcut çalışmada, hesaplamalı akışkanlar dinamiği (HAD) teknikleri, gövdesi boyunca ısı transfer yetisini geliştirmek amacıyla ısı eşanjörünün performansını sayısal olarak araştırmak için kullanılmaktadır. Isı eşanjör modelleri, koni şeklinde, merkez ve gövde kısmına yayılmış bir sarmal boru, bir gövde ve perdelerden oluşur. Perde açısı, 0o ile 90o arasında, perdelerin uzunluğu (5cm ile 35cm arasında) ve giriş nozzle ucu (0 ile 7cm arasında) değişkenlik göstermektedir. Termal analizlerden edinilen sonuçlar göstermektedir ki gövdenin perdelerinin şekillerinden dolayı akışkan, alanın içinde haraket etmekte olup kesintisi perdeler ile birlikte, ısı transferi maksimum miktarının 80o perde açısına ve perdelerin uzunluğu 30 cm'ye ulaştığı durumda, ısı eşanjöründeki ısı transfer katsayısında belirgin bir artışa neden olmaktadır. The industrial technologies have witnessed a huge development in different aspects around the world in order to serve the human needing. In the mechanical engineering, heat exchangers have become more important than ever due to the increment of the mechanical applications such as power plants, nuclear reactors, refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, heat recovery systems, chemical processing and food industries. Among the well-known heat exchangers, the helical tube is the most efficient type since it is accommodating a large heat transfer area, a high heat transfer coefficient, in a small space. In the present study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques are used to investigate numerically the performance of a heat exchanger in order to improve its ability of transferring the heat through its body. The heat exchanger model includes a helical tube, a shell and baffles where the latter are of a cone shaped and distributed in the center and in the shell-side. The angle and length of baffles are taken to be varied in the range of 00 to 900 and 5 cm to 35 cm, respectively. In addition, the input nozzle edge is selected to be changed from 0 cm to 7 cm. The major findings of the thermal analyses show that due to the baffles shape of the shell, the fluid moves inside the domain, with continuous baffles, and varies significantly, which is resulted in a significant increase in the heat transfer coefficient in the heat exchanger. The maximum amount of the transfered heat was obtained at the angle of 800 and length of 30 cm of the baffle.
