Bu araştırmada, temiz ve kırmızı kabuklubit (Aonidiella aurantii) ile bulaşmış olan turunçgiller tarafından salgılanan uçucu organik bileşikleri belirlemek için, gaz kromatografisi (GC) ile birleşmiş olan Katı faz mikro ekstraksiyon (HS-SPME) kullanılarak biyolojik mücadelenin güçlü bir tekniğini belirlenmeye odaklanmıştır. Araştırmada ayrıca, enfekte edilmiş olan turunçgillere R. Iophanthae'nin çekiminden sorumlu olan bileşikleri tanımlamaya ve R. Iophanthae'nin çekimindeki artmış olan etkilerini araştırmaya odaklanmıştır. Bu araştırmada Aonidiella aurantii ile bulaşık ve bulaşık olmayan turunçgil bitkilerinde ortaya çıkan kimyasal bileşikler tespit edilmiş ve >80 VOCs belirlenmiştir, Elde edilen verilere göre bunlardan sekiz tanesi (limonen, β-ocimeney, p-cymen, methyl salicylate, Nananol, cineole, γ- Terpinene, cis-3-Hexenyl acetate) Aonidiella aurantii turunçgillere bulaşması ile arttığı gözlenirken; beş tanesinde (Farnesene, β- Elemene, neryl acetate , β- bisabolene, nerol) azalma gözlenmiştir. Sonrasında Rhyzobius Iophanthae dişi ve erkek predatörün doğal pozitif kimyasal yönelimi bu VOCs'lara karşı olfaktometre analizinde test edilmiş ve aynı zamanda da methyl salicylate tarafından her iki test edilen dozajda (1 ve 0.1 g/L) dişi ve erkek enfekte edilmiş turunçgile cezb edilmiştir. Bu sonuçlar, öğrenilmiş olan sinyallerin Aonidiella aurantii uyarılmış VOCS'ların bu genel predatör Rhyzobius Iophanthae'de nasıl hassas doğal tepki verebildiklerini açıklamaktadır. This study was focus on identifying a robust technique of biological control to identify the volatile organic compounds emitted by healthy and infested citrus seedlings with California Red Scale Aonidiella aurantii using headspace solid-phase micro extractions (HS-SPME) combine with gas chromatography (GC). The study was also focus on identifying the compounds responsible for the attraction of Rhyzobius lophanthae to the infested citrus and study their effectiveness in increasing the attraction of the Rhyzobius lophanthae. The chemical stimuli compounds emanating from uninfected and infested citrus plant were diagnosed. In the current study more than 80 VOCs were identified, eight of these (limonene, β-ocimeney, p-cymene, methyl salicylate, Nanaol, cineole, γ- Terpinene, -3-Hexenyl acetate) were increased by Aonidiella aurantii infestation while five (Farnesene, β- Elemene, Neryl acetate, β- bisabolene, nerol) were decreased. Innate positive chemo taxis of predator Rhyzobius lophanthae female and male towards these VOCs was then tested in olfactometer assay, female and male were attracted to infected citrus and also to methyl salicylate, at both tested dosages, These results explain how learned signals can fine-tune innate responses to CRS -induced VOCs in this generalist predator Rhyzobius lophanthae.
