Süperpikseller, özellikle imge ve video bölütleme uygulamalarında kullanılan; bir imgeye veya videoya ait benzer renk, yoğunluk ve doku özellikleri gösteren piksellerden oluşan görsel yapılardır. Süperpikseller özellikle biyomedikal, askeri ve uzaktan algılama çalışmalarında bölütleme, nesnelerin tespiti, takibi, arka planların çıkarılması, belirginlik tespiti vb. uygulamalarda kullanılmaktadır. Literatürdeki süperpiksel yöntemlerinin bölütleme performansları ideal ve gürültü içermeyen imgelere uygulanarak elde edilen sonuçlara göre ölçülmekte ve sunulmaktadır. Ancak, pratik uygulamalarda hem iletim ortamı hem de görüntüleme sistemlerindeki lens hücre hatalarından dolayı imgeler çoğunlukla gürültü içermektedirler. Dolayısıyla önerilen bir süperpiksel algoritmasının sadece ideal için değil aynı zamanda gürültü içeren imgeler için de bölütleme performanslarının analiz edilmesi gerekmektedir. Bu tez çalışmasında literatürde en yaygın şekilde kullanılan süperpiksel algoritmalarının gürültülü imgeler için bölütleme performansı ve gürültü bağışıklığı incelenmiştir. Ayrıca, gürültülü imgeler için bölütleme uygulamalarında ön işlem elemanı olarak filtre kullanımının bölütleme performansına olan etkisi de incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla, farklı yaklaşımlarla geliştirilmiş beş süperpiksel algoritması imge bölütleme veri setinden seçilen test imgelerine uygulanmıştır. Test imgesi olarak farklı doku, renk ve histogram davranışlarına sahip on beş imge seçilmiştir. Gerçekleştirilen uygulamalar sonucunda, farklı gürültü tip ve seviyelerinin süperpiksel algoritmalarının bölütleme performanslarına etkisi ve süperpiksel algoritmalarının gürültü bağışıklığı incelenmiştir. Ayrıca, ön işlem elemanı olarak filtre kullanımının süperpiksel algoritmalarının bölütleme performansına olan etkisi elde edilen başarı metrikleri ile ortaya konmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlar ışığında gürültülü imgelerde nesneleri ayıran sınır bilgisinin belirginliğinin azalması nedeniyle süperpiksel algoritmalarının bölütleme performansının önemli derecede azaldığı görülmüştür. İncelenen süperpiksel algoritmaları arasında bölütleme performansı ve gürültü bağışıklığı bağlamında gerekli analiz ve kıyaslamalar gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ön işlem elemanı olarak filtre kullanımının gürültü ve filtre tipine bağlı olarak bölütleme performansını arttırdığı gözlemlenmiştir.
Superpixels, used especially in image and video segmentation applications, are the visual structures composed of pixels having same color, intensity and texture behavior. Superpixels are used especially in biomedical, military and remote sensing studies, applications such as segmentation, detection and tracking of object, background subtraction, saliency detection etc. The segmentation performance of superpixel methods in the literature are measured and presented by applying to ideal and noise-free images. However, in practical applications, images often contain noise due to both noise components in the transmission environment and the lens cell errors in the imaging systems. Therefore, the segmentation performances of a proposed superpixel algorithm should be analysed not only for ideal images, but also for noise-containing images. In this thesis study, segmentation performance for noisy images and noise sensitivity of the most common used superpixel algorithms in the literature are examined. Moreover, in segmentation applications for noisy images, the effect of filter usage as a pre-processing element on segmentation performance is examined. For this purpose, five superpixel algorithms developed with different approaches have been applied to selected test images from the image segmentation data set. Fifteen images that have different texture, colour and histogram characteristics are selected as test images. As a result of the applications performed, the effects of different noise types and levels on the segmentation performances of the superpixel algorithms and noise sensitivity of the superpixel algorithms are examined. Furthermore, the effect of filter usage as a pre-processing element on the segmentation performance of superpixel algorithms is demonstrated by the achieved success metrics. Obtained results showed that the segmentation performance of superpixel algorithms decreased significantly due to the decreasing of significance of boundary information that separates objects in noisy images. Among the superpixel algorithms examined, the necessary analyses and comparisons are made in terms of segmentation performance and noise sensitivity. It has been observed that the usage of filters as pre-processing element increases the segmentation performance depending on the noise and filter type.
