Bu çalışmanın amacı egzoz gazı geri dönüşümünün döner tambur kompostlama sisteminin performansına etkisini belirlemektir. Bu amaçla, efektif hacmi 0.38 m3 olan (uzunluğu 105 cm ve çapı 82 cm) silindirik döner tambur kompostlama ünitesinde % 48.53 tavuk gübresi ve % 51.47 saman karışımı kompostlanmıştır. Karışımın C/N oranı % 19.04 ve nem oranı % 67.95'dir. Egzoz gazı geri dönüşümünün kompost fiziksel ve kimyasal özellikleri, ayrışma hızı, organik madde kayıpları, olgunlaşma oranına, çimlenme oranı ve elektrik enerjisi tüketimine etkisi incelenmiştir. Tambur gövdesi dönüş hareketi 1 devir/dakika olarak seçilmiştir. Kompostlama esnasında, sıcaklık, O2 konsantrasyonu, elektrik tüketimi, ortam havası nem ve sıcaklık, kompost kütlesi, kompost nemi, organik madde, elektiriksel iletkenlik, pH, toplam karbon ve azot, amonyum ve nitrat ölçümleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bunun yanında deneme sonunda çimlenme testleri yapılmıştır. Kompostlama işleminde sıcaklık geri beslemeli kontrol (fan açık/kapalı) ve egzoz gazının (% 0, % 33 ve % 66) miktar kontrolü yapılmıştır. Denemelerde dört farklı uygulama gerçekleştirilmiştir: DT: egzoz gazı geri dönüşümü yapılmadığı uygulama, EGD-33: egzoz gazının % 33'lük kısmı sabit olarak geri dönüşümü yapıldığı uygulama, EGD-66: egzoz gazının % 66'lık kısmı sabit olarak geri dönüşümü yapıldığı uygulama ve EGD-DO: değişen oranlı egzoz gazı geri dönüşümlü döner tambur uygulamasıdır. Olgunlaşma oranı ve ayrışma hızını belirlemek için iki parçalı kinetik denklem kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sonuçları, egzoz gazı dönüşüm miktarının değişen oranlı olarak uygulanması ile DT, EGD-33 ve EGD-66'ye göre ısınma hızı sırasıyla % 43, % 43 ve % 32 oranda artmıştır. Dönüşüm miktarı arttıkça sıcaklık kontrolü daha zorlaşmıştır. Egzoz gazının dönüşüm oranı arttıkça, 64 C sıcaklığa ulaşma süresi azalmıştır. DT, EGD-33 ve EGD-66 ve EGD-DO uygulamalarında ölçülen en düşük O2 konsantrasyonu değerleri sırasıyla % 12.91, % 11.50, % 12.87 ve % 11.49'dur. Deneme sonunda, DT, EGD-33 ve EGD-66 ve EGD-DO uygulamalarında organik madde içerikleri sırasıyla, % 25.22, % 24.38, % 29.59 ve % 29.08 azalırken C/N oranı ise sırasıyla 13.75, 14.16, 15.86 ve 13.09'a düşmüştür. Çimlenme testinde tüm seyreltme oranlarında, EGD-DO uygulamasının çimlenme indeksi değerleri diğer uygulamalara göre daha yüksek olup seyreltme oranının azalması ile çimlenme indeksi değerleri artmıştır. Tüm uygulamalarda % 25 ve % 50 seyreltme oranlarında çimlenme indeksi değerleri % 80'in üzerinde çıkmıştır. DT, EGD-33, EGD-66 ve EGD-DO uygulamalarında elektrik enerjisi tüketim değerleri sırasıyla 11.22, 11.49, 14.02 ve 12.64 kWh olarak ölçülmüştür. DT, EGD-33, EGD-66 ve EGD-DO uygulamalarında k1 değeri sırasıyla 0.0738, 0.1123, 0.0803 ve 0.3547 1/gün olarak hesaplanmıştır. Bu sonuçlar, en yüksek ayrışma hızının EGD-DO uygulamasında olduğunu göstermiştir. Diğer taraftan egzoz gazının geri dönüşümü (EGD-33, EGD-66 ve EGD-DO) yapıldığı uygulamalardaki ayrışma hızı DT'den daha yüksektir. Bu nedenle egzoz gazının geri dönüşümünün ayrışma hızını artırdığı söylenebilir. Döner tambur kompostlama makinesinde değişen oranlı egzoz gazının kullanımı daha olgun kompost üreterek (% 29.08 OMK) enerji kullanımını azaltmıştır. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the exhaust gas recycling on the performance of the rotary drum composting system. For this purpose, a compost mixture consisting of 48.53 % broiler litter and 51.47 % straw mixture was composted in a cylindrical rotary drum composting unit with an effective volume of 0.38 m3 (length 105 cm and diameter 82 cm). The mixture had a C/N ratio of 19.04 and moisture of 67.95 % (wet basis). The effects of exhaust gas recycling on compost physical and chemical properties, decomposition rate, organic matter losses, maturation rate, germination rate and consumption of electrical energy were investigated. The revolution of the drum composter was selected at one revolution per minute. During composting, measurements of temperature, O2 concentration, electricity consumption, ambient air humidity and temperature, compost mass, compost moisture, organic matter, electrical conductivity, pH, total carbon and nitrogen, ammonium and nitrate measurements were performed. In addition, germination tests were carried out at the end of the experiment. During composting, temperature feedback control was performed based fan on/off control and the amount of exhaust gas (0 %, 33 % and 66 %) were controlled. Four different treatments (DT, EGD-33, EGD-66 EGD-DO) were performed in the experiments; DT: application in which exhaust gas was not recycled, EGD-33: application where 33 % of the exhaust gas was constantly recycled, EGD-66: 66 % of the exhaust gas was constantly recycled, and EGD-DO: proportional exhaust gas recirculation for rotary drum application. A two-part kinetic equation was used to determine the maturity ratio and decomposition rate. Results showed that the self-heating rate by DT, EGD-33 and EGD-66 increased by 43 %, 43 % and 32 %, respectively comparing to DO application. As the amount of recycling rate increased, the temperature control become more difficult. As the conversion rate of exhaust air increased, the time to reach 64 °C decreased. The lowest O2 concentration values was measured in DT, EGD-33 and EGD-66 and EGD-DO applications were 12.91 %, 11.50 %, 12.87 % and 11.49 %. At the end of the trial, OM contents in DT, EGD-33 and EGD-66 and EGD-DO applications decreased by 25.22 %, 24.38 %, 29.59 %, and 29.08 % respectively. At the end of the trial, the C/N ratio in DT, EGD-33 and EGD-66 and EGD-DO applications decreased to 13.75, 14.16, 15.86 and 13.09. At all dilution rates in germination test, germination index values of EGD-DO application were higher than other applications and germination index values increased with the decrease of dilution rate. In all applications, germination index values at 25 % and 50 % dilution rates exceeded 80 %. Electricity consumption values of DT, EGD-33, EGD-66 and EGD-DO were measured as 11.22, 11.49, 14.02 and 12.64 kWh respectively. In the DT, EGD-33, EGD-66 and EGD-DO applications, decomposition rate of fast portion of compost (k1) values were calculated as 0.0738, 0.1123, 0.0803 and 0.3547 1/day. These results showed that the highest decomposition rate occurred for the EGD-DO application. On the other hand, applications of exhaust gas recirculation (EGD-33, EGD-66 and EGD-DO) had higher decomposition rates than DT. Therefore, it can be said that the recycling of the exhaust gas led to increase in the decomposition speed. The use of variable proportional exhaust gas in a rotary drum composting machine reduced energy use by producing more mature composts.
