Osmanlı tarihi üzerine yapılan çalışmaların son yıllarda sosyal tarih üzerinde yoğunlaştığı gözlenmektedir. Bu durum şer'iyye sicillerinin kullanımını zorunlu hale getirmiştir. Burdur şer'iyye sicilleri, Burdur'un Osmanlı idaresindeki dönemine ışık tutan en zengin kaynaklardır. Yapılan bu çalışmada da en önemli kaynak olarak şer'iyye sicilleridir. XIX. yüzyıl ortalarında Tanzimat Dönemi toplum yapısı ve Tanzimat'ın mahalli idarelerde getirdiği yenilikler çalışmamızın temelini oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma giriş ve üç ayrı bölümden oluşmaktadır. Giriş bölümünde Burdur'un Osmanlı idaresinden önceki durumunu ve Osmanlı hakimiyetine geçtikten sonra 1939 tarihine kadar ki durumu kısaca ele alınmıştır. Birinci bölümde Burdur Kazası'nın idari yapısı ve adli teşkilat incelenmiştir. İkinci bölümde ise burdur kazasının sosyal yapısı incelenmiş, Burdur'da aile yapısı ve etnik unsurlar üzerinde durulmuştur. Ailelerin ekonomik durumları, evlenme ve boşanma hükümlerine değinilmiştir. Vakıflar başlığı altında da Burdur'da bulunan vakıflar ve hizmet alanları ile ilgili konular ele alınmıştır. Üçüncü ve son bölümde ise Burdur'un ekonomik yapısı üzerinde durulmuş, toplanan vergi çeşitleri ve miktarlarına değinilerek Burdur'un ekonomik durumu tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bunların yanında fiyat hareketleri ve narh sisteminin işleyişi ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.
It can be seen that the recent studies on the Otoman history has focused on the social history discipline. This situation has made the usage of the sherei register books unavoidable. The Burdur sherei register books are the richest sources of the social structure of the Burdur history under the Ottoman reign. In this study, the sherei register books have been acknowledged as the most significant sources. Both the Reform (Tanzimat) Ages' social structure in the middle of XIX. Century , and the innovations caused by these Reforms which were effective on the local governments are formed as the basis of this study. This study is consisted of an introduction and three other sections. In the introduction, the situation of Burdur before the Ottoman reign and the situation of Burdur after the Ottoman reign till 1939 has been briefly highlighted. In the first section, the administrative structure and the judicial authorities of Burdur District have been examined. In the second section, the social structure of Burdur District has been examined and, the family structure and the ethnic diversity of it have been discussed. The economical conditions of the families, the provisions of marriges and the divorcements have been mentioned. And under the title of "The Foundations", the foundations in Burdur and their service areas have been discussed. In the third and the last section, the economical structure of Burdur has been examined. The economical structure of Burdur has been determined through the tax varieties and quantities that had been collected in Burdur district. In addition to these, the price movements have been tried to examine and the application of the Narh systems (price control sytem) has been pointed out.
