Bu tez çalışmasında Göller Bölgesi imalat sanayi firmalarının hayatta kalma ve büyüme performansları üzerinde etkili olan faktörler araştırılmıştır. Bu çalışma ile bölgedeki firmaların performanslarının artırılmasına yönelik uygulanabilecek politikalara bir zemin hazırlanması amaçlanmaktadır. Firmaların hayatta kalma ve büyüme etkinlikleri, firma temelli, endüstri/çevre temelli, yenilik temelli ve insan sermayesi temelli faktörler olmak üzere dört boyuttan ve 49 sorudan oluşan bir anketle ölçülmüştür. 2003 yılında Yrd. Doç.Dr. Bekir Sami OĞUZTÜRK'ün doktora çalışmasında kullandığı 60 firmadan oluşan örneklem, bu çalışmanın da örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Bu tez çalışması veri çalışması olarak da türünün ilk örneğidir. Çalışmanın uygulama kısmında, hayatta kalma olasılıklarının değerlendirilmesinde lojistik regresyon, büyüme performanslarının değerlendirilmesinde Tobit ve EKK modelleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular, ilgili literatürde önemli olan temel noktalarla karşılaştırılmıştır. Yapılan ampirik çalışmalardan elde edilen sonuçlara göre, bölgedeki firmalar açısından "Firma Temelli" faktörlerin hayatta kalma ve büyüme performansları üzerindeki etkilerinin diğer boyutlara göre daha anlamlı ve pozitif olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, Göller Bölgesi imalat sanayi firmalarının geleneksel tarza sahip olduğu, yenilikçi yapılarının ise yetersiz kaldığı belirlenmiştir. Firmalar endüstriyel değişimden daha çok kurulu oldukları bölgenin yapısında yaşanan farklılıklardan etkilenmektedirler. İnsan sermayesinin firmaların performansına etkileri ise bazı alanlarda sınırlı kalmaktadır. Bölgedeki küçük ölçekli ve genç firmaların hayatta kalma ve büyüme performanslarının oldukça yüksek olması, bölgesel sanayi politikasında bu firmalara öncelik verilmesini gerekli kılmaktadır. Gelişmekte olan ülke ortamında ve geleneksel emek yoğun endüstrilerin varlığı altında yapılan bu tez çalışması, bu yönüyle benzer çalışmalar arasında ilk olma özelliğine sahiptir. Buradan elde edilen sonuçların firma hayatta kalması ve büyümesi literatürüne, bu farklılık temelinde katkı sağlayacağı beklenmektedir. The dissertation investigates the factors that determine the survival and the growth performance of manufacturing firms located in the Lakes Region. It is aimed to lay the groundwork for applicable policies aiming the growth of firm performances. The survival and growth activities of the firms are measured through a four-dimensional, namely firm based, industry/environment based, innovation based and human capital based, questionnaire consisting of 49 questions. The sample with 60 firms that is used by Associate Professor Bekir Sami OĞUZTÜRK in the year 2003 constitutes the sample of the study. The dissertation is a prototype in the area in terms of data collection. For the application logistic regression method is used for the evaluation of survival probability, and Tobit and OLS models are used for the evaluation of growth performances. The findings are compared with the basics of the related literature. According to the results of the empirical work, the effects of the "Firm Based" factors on the survivals and growth performances of the firms located in the region are found to be more significant and positive than the remaining dimensions. As a result, the manufacturing firms of the Lakes Region are found to be more conventional and are inadequate in terms of innovative structure. The firms are affected heavily by the disparities experienced in the region where they are located rather than the industrial alterations. The effects of the human capital on firm performances are limited in some areas. The very high survival and growth performances of the small-sized and young firms in the region necessitate priority to these firms in the regional industrial policies. The dissertation conducted in a developing country environment and with traditional labour intensive industries has the property of being a prototype among similar studies. It is expected that the results of the study would have significant contributions to the literature of firms' survival and growth.
