Bu tez çalışmasının amacı, son yıllarda rağbet görmeye başlayan seyahatname araştırmalarına katkıda bulunmak ve yine son dönemlerde birçok bilimdalına rehberlik etme konumunda olan imgebilim araştırmalarına faydalı olabilmektir. Bir İngiliz seyyah olan Sir Charles Fellows'un gözünden Türkiye ve Türk imgesi tespit edilecektir. Araştırma da öncelikli olarak seyyah, seyahatname, imge, imgebilim gibi kavramlar tanımlanmıştır. Çalışmaya yön verecek olan bu kavramların iyi anlaşılması oldukça önemlidir. 19. Yüzyıl İngiliz seyyah Sir Charles Fellows'un araştırmaları ve eserleri inceleneceğinden bu yüzyılda Osmanlının ekonomik ve sosyal yapısıyla ilgili bilgilere yer verilmesi gerektiğini uygun gördük. Çalışmamızın son bölümünde ise Sir Charles Fellows'un eserlerindeki Türk imgesi ve Türkiye ile ilgili tespitlerini kapsamlı şekilde inceledik. Sir Charles Fellows'un tespitlerini yer yer diğer seyyahların tespitleriyle karşılaştırdık. Sonuç olarak, Fellows'un tespitlerinin kimi zaman doğru olduğunu, kimi zaman yanlış olduğunu fark ettik. Bu bağlamda, Türk imgesinin süreç içerisinde değişebileceği sonucuna ulaştık.
The aim of this thesis is to determine the image of Turks via examining and comparing the information given by the traveler Sir Charles Fellows who came to the Ottoman Empire.. In the research, the travelbooks of Sir Charles Fellows and his sources related to the Ottoman Empire were used. In the first section of the study, descriptions of traveller, travelbook, image of Turk were given. Also, travelbooks as sources in writing history and their interpretations were presented. In the same section, the life of the traveller Sir Charles Fellows whose books were used in this study were discussed. .Identification of imagology and relationship between imagology and travelbooks were also given in this section. In the second section, the findings about the image of Turk according to the work of Sir Charles Fellows are discussed. The findings are very spectacular so they will be very useful for imagology. According to the study, it can be seen more information can be found about the image of Turk with the work of traveler. There are very effective information in
