Bu çalışmada öncelikle kent, kentleşme, sürdürülebilirlik, turizm, kentsel dönüşüm, koruma, kentsel koruma ve kentsel kimlik kavramlarına açıklık getirilmektedir. Ardından koruma türlerine ve tekniklerine, Türkiye'de ve Çek Cumhuriyeti'nde gerçekleşen koruma anlayışının uygulama biçimleri ile yasalar çerçevesindeki gelişimine ve kentsel korumayı etkileyen faktörlere değinilmektedir.İkinci ve üçüncü bölümde Antalya ve Prag kentlerinin genel özellikleri, tarihi kent merkezlerinin korunması ile işlevsel olarak kullanılması ve kentsel hizmet sunumu-koruma ilişkisi değerlendirilmektedir. Bu çerçevede, adı geçen iki kent ile bunların tarihi kent merkezleri. incelenmekte, iki kentte yaşanan dönüşümlerin tarihi dokuya etkileri ve tarihi kent merkezlerinde bulunan yapıların işlevsel olarak korunup yaşatıldığı incelenmektedir. Mekanın planlanmasında ve kullanılmasında rol alan aktörler (merkezi ve yerel yönetimler) saptanarak, bu aktörlerin tutum ve yaklaşımlarına yönelik genel bir değerlendirme de yapılmaktadır. Çalışmada, bahsi geçen konuların aydınlatılması için, konuyla ilgili kişilerle yapılan görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler ve görsel malzemeler(fotoğraflar, çizimler) kullanılmaktadır. Dördüncü bölümde, Antalya ve Prag kentlerinde koruma anlayışının kentsel kimlik oluşumuna etkisini ve kentsel kimlikteki yerini belirlemeye dönük anket çalışmasının sonuçları sunulmuştur. Bu amaçla, her iki kentten 62.şer olmak üzere toplamda 124 kişiyle görüşülmüş, kentsel kimlik algısına ve görüşülen kişilerin demografik özelliklerine ilişkin bir anket uygulanmıştır. Yapılan bu görüşmeler ile kentlerin nasıl tanımlandığı, kentleri eşsiz yapan etkenlerin neler olduğu, kent kimliğinin oluşumunda hangi özelliklerin ön plana çıktığı, kentlerin nasıl algılandığı, kentsel kimliklerin oluşumunda korumanın ve diğer unsurların etkisi belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Son bölüm ise sonuç ve değerlendirmeye ayrılmış, araştırmanın amacı, bulguları ve katkıları kısaca özetlenmiş, öneriler ortaya konulmuştur. In this study, some concepts such as city, urbanization, sustainability, tourism, urban regeneration, conservation, urban conservation and urban identity are primarily defined. Subsequently, the study also deals with the types and techniques of conservation, some applications in urban conservation in Turkey, in the Czech Republic, its development within the legal framework, and the factors affecting urban conservation. In the second and the third chapter, the general features of the cities of Antalya and Prague, the conservation of their old town centers and their functional use, and relationship between urban service delivery and conservation have been evaluated. In this context, the two cities and their ?historic old town centers? have been investigated, and the effects of urban conversion on historical tissue and the functional conservation of the buildings in the old town center have also been studied. The actors playing roles in the planning and the use of space in the central and local governments have been identified, evaluating their attitudes and approaches on conservation. The data acquired from the interviews with the people concerned in the two cities and some visual materials (photographs, drawings) have been used in the study.In the fourth chapter, the results of a field research on how conservation methods influence the construction of an urban identity and what role conservation methods play in the construction of an urban identity are presented. For this purpose, 62 people in each city, and 124 people in the total, are asked to fill out a questionnaire in order to gather data on the biographical characteristics of the interviewees and their perception of urban identity. The importance of concept of conservation in the urban identity has been studied here. Following these interviews, it has been tried to determine how one defines cities, what makes a city is unique, what features of the two cities are at the forefront, how they are perceived and what the roles of conservation and other factors in the construction of the urban identity in the two cities play are investigated. In the last section, conclusions and evaluations are presented, the goals, findings and contributions of the study is summarized and suggestions are listed.
