Ülkelerin ekonomik seviyelerinin yükselmesinde, kültürel ve sosyal alanlarının gelişmesinde, bütünlüklerinin korunmasında eğitim düzeyinin rolü büyüktür. İnsanoğlu doğumundan ölümüne kadar devamlı öğrenir ve farkında olmasa da çevresinde gördükleriyle eğitime tabi olur. 21. Yüzyılda insanoğlunun hayatında üniversite eğitimi önemli yere sahiptir. Üniversite eğitimi almış bireyler öğrenim görmenin yanında hayat deneyimi kazanarak, sosyal ve kültürel alanlarda da kendilerini geliştirirler. Geçmişte yapılan çalışmalar insanoğlunun mutluluk düzeyinin eğitim kalitesini doğrudan etkilediğini göstermiştir. O halde öğrencilerin her alanda önde olan bir üniversitede okumaları, aldıkları eğitimlerde algılarını yükseltecek ve ülke eğitim seviyesini en üst düzeye çıkaracaktır.Bu çalışmada ülkemizin Akdeniz bölgesinde bulunan sekiz devlet üniversitesi alanlarında uzman kişilerin belirlediği kriterlere göre Analitik Hiyerarşi Yöntemiyle incelemeye alınmıştır. Bireylerin hayatlarını etkileyen üniversite tercihi kararları önem arz ettiği için problemin kökeni olan karar teorisi birinci bölümde anlatılmıştır. İkinci bölümde ise problemin çözümüne ulaşmak için kullanılan Analitik Hiyerarşi Yöntemi kapsamlı olarak ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın üçüncü bölümünde ise üniversite kavramına değinilmiş, ülkemizde üniversitelerin tarihsel gelişimi ele alınmış ve tercihlerde büyük etkisi olan üniversite imkânları verilmiştir. Son olarak dördüncü bölümde ise Analitik Hiyerarşi yöntemiyle Akdeniz bölgesi devlet üniversiteleri üzerine bir uygulama örneğine yer verilmiştir.İyi bir üniversiteyi temsil eden kriterler göreceli olduğu için Akdeniz bölgesinde bulunan 8 farklı ildeki 40 uzmanla birebir görüşülüp, kriterlerin önem dereceleri belirlenmiştir. Sonraki aşamada ise kriterler için veriler toplanarak Analitik Hiyerarşi Yöntemi probleme uygulanmıştır. Her bir kritere göre tek tek üniversite sıralamaları belirlenmiş, nihai aşamada ise tüm kriterlere göre genel sıralama elde edilmiştir.Çalışma, öğrencilere yol göstermenin yanı sıra, üniversitelere eksik oldukları alanlarda rehberlik etme niteliği taşımaktadır. The level of education plays a very crucial role on the increase of the economic development of the countries, on the development of cultural and social sides, and the preservation of the integrity. The human beings learn from birth to death perpetually and even if they are not aware of this fact, they are exposed to education with the things that they see in their environments. In the 21st century, university education is of great significance in the lives of individuals. In addition to the formal education, those who get the university education improve themselves culturally and socially by means of life experiences. The former studies reveal that there is a direct link between individuals’ level of happiness and their quality of education. In this context, being a student in one of the prominent universities will increase the individuals’ perception on education and will increase the standards of the education to the highest level given nationwide. In this study, the eight state universities in Mediterranean Region were analyzed in our country depending upon the criteria determined by experts. As the decisions of the individuals while they are choosing universities which leave impact on their lives is so important, in the first chapter, the theory of decision which is the source of the problem is laid an emphasis. In the second chapter, the Analytic Hierarchy Process used to come to a resolution of a particular problem were focused elaborately. In Chapter three, the concept of university as well as the historical background and the opportunities that direct the selection of the universities were mentioned. Lastly, in chapter four, the case study on state universities in the Mediterranean region through Analytic Hierarchy Process was given.As the criteria that represent a good university are relative, the importance rate of the criteria were ascertained after an interview with 40 different experts in 8 different countries. Then, for criteria, the data were obtained and the Analytic Hierarchy Process were applied to the problem. According to each criterion, the rating of the universities were determined, and ultimately, based upon total criteria general rating was obtained.The study, in addition to directing the students in the process of selection, guides the universities on the point of their deficiency.
