Bu tez, 1914-1922 yılları arasında modern Ortadoğu'da devletlerin oluşumunda İngiltere'nin izlediği siyaseti ele almaktadır. Çalışmamızın çıkış noktası İngiltere'nin, Hindistan'ı ele geçirmesiyle başlayan ve sömürge yollarını korumayı kendisine ilke edinen politikalarının Ortadoğu'nun kaderini nasıl belirlediğidir. Bu aynı zamanda İngiltere ve Osmanlı Devleti'nin Ortadoğu'da karşı karşıya gelmesini içeren bir süreçtir. Yaptığımız çalışmadan çıkan bulgulara göre, Ortadoğu, sahip olduğu jeopolitik ve jeostratejik konumu nedeniyle tarih boyunca başat güçlerin hedefi olmuştur. Böylesine önemli bir coğrafyayı tanımlamak ve anlatmak oldukça zordur. 19.yüzyılın sonlarında ve 20. Yüzyılın başlarında kullanılmaya başlanan Ortadoğu, batılı bir kavramdır. Bu kavramın belirlenmesinde etkili olan en önemli devlet İngiltere'dir. İngilizler bu kavram ile Ortadoğu'nun sınırlarını menfaatleri doğrultusunda belirlemiştir. İngiltere'nin, sınırları belirlemesiyle 1516 yılından beri Ortadoğu'da bulunan Osmanlı devleti bölgeden çekilmiş ve 1918'de yıkılmıştır. Böylece Ortadoğu haritası parçalı bir hal almış ve güç boşluğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu güç boşluğu İngiltere tarafından belirlenen aileler ve yöneticiler aracılığıyla doldurulmaya çalışılmıştır. Fakat İngiltere tarafından sağlanan bu yönetim şeklinin Ortadoğu halklarının isteklerini yansıtmaması bir çok problemin ortaya çıkmasına katkıda bulunmuştur. This thesis discusses British policy in the emergence of the states in modern Middle East between the years of 1914-1922. The starting point of this research is how the British policies that began with the seizure of India by Britain and aimed to preserve the routes of colonies determine destiny of the Middle East. At the same time it is the process that includes confrontation of Ottoman State and Britain in the region. According to the findings of this research the Middle East has become the target of great powers throughout the history due to the geopolitical and geostrategic location. To define and to describe this geography which is crucially important is very difficult. The concept of Middle East which was used at the end of 19th century and at the beginning of 20th century is a western concept. The most decisive state for the determination of this concept is Britain. Britishmen determined the borders of the Middle East according to their interests. When Britain determined the borders, Ottoman State that had located in the Middle East since 1516 withdrew from the region and collapsed in 1918. Thus, the map of the Middle East has been fragmental and occured power vacuum. This power vacuum had been tried to fill by the families and the rulers determined by Britain. But this kind of ruling provided by Britain didn't reflect the wishes of Middle Eastern people and this situation contributed the emergence of lots of problems.
