Bu tezin amacı, İbsen tarafından kaleme alınmış Yaban Ördeği isimli eserdeki sembolleri araştırmaktır. Sembolizm, İbsen’in hayatı ve o günkü toplum hakkında genel bilgiler verilmiştir. Bu tezde oyunda çokça kullanılan ana ve tali semboller incelenmiştir. Bunlardan bazıları; ördek, köpek, saat ve resimli kitaplardır. Ayrıca İbsen; Gregers, Hedvig, Old Werle, Hialmar Ekdal ve diğer karakterlerini de sembol dokusuna başarıyla yerleştirmiştir. Eserdeki sembollerin arkasındaki ana etken, İbsen’in içinde yaşadığı toplum ve o toplumdaki problemlerdir. Esas itibari ile bu problemlere odaklanır. Edebi eserin ve sanatçının doğası gereği gerçek açık bir şekilde verilmesi yerine daha örtük bir tarzda verilmiştir. Böylece vurgulanması istenen sorunlar daha etkili bir şekilde anlatılmıştır.Bu oyundaki insanların birçoğu ‘yaban ördeği’ gibi yaralanmış ya da zulüm görmüştür.Bunun sonucunda kendilerini bu bataklıktan kurtaracak bir ‘köpeği’ beklemektedirler.Bu tezde, farklı bakış açılarını inceleyerek, sembollerin manaları ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Bir aile dramı ve trajikomik olan Yaban Ördeği hayat çilesini çekmiş ve en ağır şekilde yaralanmış insanları ele alır. The aim of this thesis is to explore the symbols in The Wild Duck by Ibsen.General information about symbolism, Ibsen’s life and society have been given. In this thesis, a number of major and minor symbols used in the play have been examined. Some of them are a duck, dog, clock and books with paintings. Ibsen has successfully used symbols behind his characters like Gregers, Hedvig, Old Werle, Hialmar Ekdal and the others, too. The main factor behind the symbols in the play is the society that Ibsen lived in and the problems of that society on which the writer mainly focuses. And due to the nature of literary work and artist, the truth is given implicitly rather than explicitly.Thus, things aimed to be emphasized get more importance. For example, most people in this play, like ‘the wild duck’, are wounded or oppressed. As a result, they are waiting for a ‘dog’ that will dive deep into the marsh and save them.In this thesis, by examining different viewpoints, we have tried to reveal the meanings of symbols. The Wild Duck, which is a combination of a family drama and the tragicomic, investigates the people wounded by the evils of life.
