Zamanımızda bilim adamları tarafından yapılan tasnife göre dinî mûsikî cami musikisi ve tekke mûsikîsi olarak incelenmektedir. Biz de bu iki başlık altında incelenen dinî mûsikîmize ait formları kısaca tarif edip, bu formları besteleyen din adamı sanatçıların hayatlarını ve bestelerini bilim dünyasına ve kamuoyunun hizmetine sunmak amacıyla bu çalışmayı yaptık. Bahsedilen mûsikî eserlerini icra eden ve besteleyen sanatçıların din adamı olması hasebiyle yapılan bu sanatın İslam Dini açısından bir yasaklılığı olup olmadığına dair İslam Tarihi’nden örnekler verdik. İlahi, mevlit, mersiye, naat ve diğer dini mûsikî formlarını icra eden, besteleyen, güfteleyen sanatçılarla yaptığımız röportajları ayrıntılı olarak kayıt altına alıp çalışmaya dâhil ettik. Bu çalışma ile dinî musikî formlarından beste yapmak isteyenlere ve bu alanda temayüz etmiş sanatçılarla ilgili çalışma yapma düşüncesinde olanlara kılavuzluk etmesini amaçladığımızdan örnek bestelerin notalarını çalışmanın sonuna ilave ettik. Özellikle de röportajlarda sanatçılara, mezkûr dinî mûsiki formlarının kurallarına göre nasıl okunacağının sorusunu sorarak okuyuşlarda otantik yapının korunması noktasında hassasiyet gösterdik.
