Küreselleşme ve teknolojik gelişmelerle birbirinden çok uzak olan kentler için dünya bir hayli küçülmüştür. Bu ortamda, kentler birbirine benzer bir hal almaya başlamıştır. Bu kentler gerek daha fazla turist, gerekse daha fazla yatırım çekmek için ama özünde ekonomik olarak daha fazla dikkat çekmek amacıyla rekabet içine girmektedirler. Bu rekabet gücünü arttırmak, insanların daha kaliteli yaşamasını sağlamak ve cazibeli bir kent haline gelebilmek için kent markalaşması yaratmak vazgeçilmez bir unsur haline gelmiştir. Bu markayı yaratmanın yolu kentlerin hem kamu hem de özel sektör açısından iyi bir şekilde pazarlanmasından geçmektedir.Bir kenti marka haline getirmek için, pazarlamak için pek çok aktöre ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu aktörler, merkezi yönetim, yerel yönetim, yerel halk, basın ve sivil toplum örgütleri gibi aktörlerdir. Bu aktörler kentin sahip olduğu avantajları iyi bir şekilde yönetmelidir. Aksi takdirde, oluşturulması planlanan imajın başarı seviyesi oldukça düşük kalacaktır.Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, Fethiye’nin marka değerlerinin halk tarafından nasıl algılandığını belirlemektir. Bu amaçla marka kavramı, markanın unsurları ve bu unsurlar arasındaki ilişkiler incelenerek, Fethiye Belediyesi tarafından gerçekleştirilen faaliyetlerin Fethiye’nin bir kent markası haline getirip getirmediği ve diğer ulusal ve uluslararası kentler arasında hangi seviyede olduğu ortaya konulacaktır.Araştırma, anket çalışması olup 2013 yılı ocak ayında, Fethiye ilçe merkezinde yaşayan vatandaşlar, Fethiye Belediyesi personeli ve Fethiye’ye gelen turistler ile yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda Fethiye’nin marka kent olabilmek için temel değerlere sahip olduğu, ancak markalaşmanın temel unsurlarının yerine getirilmediği ve gerekli/yeterli yatırımın yapılmadığı görülmektedir. Bu nedenle başta Fethiye Belediyesi olmak üzere tüm paydaşların Türkiye’nin 2023 Turizm Stratejisini de baz alarak bir yol haritası belirlemeleri gerekmektedir. The globe has become quite smaller for the cities far from one another along with the globalization and the technological development. In this setting, the cities have started coming state of resembling one another. These cities have entered into competition in order to attract either more tourists or more investments but actually to attract more attention economically. To create branding of cities in order to improve competitive capacity, to provide people with lives with higher quality and to become a charming city has become an indispensible factor. The path to create this brand is to commercialize the cities in a good way in terms of both public and private sectors.There are many actors that have been needed to transform the cities in to brands and commercialize them. These actors are like central administrations, local administrations, media and non-governmental organizations. These actors should manage the advantages which a city has in a good way. Although some strategies have been applied to brand the cities, the cities have images preexisting. These images from the past are needed to be analyzed properly in the process of branding and the process of branding should be built on these images. Otherwise, the level of success that is planned to be created will be low. The main purpose of this study is to specify how the brand equity of Fethiye is perceived by the public. For this purpose, whether Fethiye is a city in the eye of public or not, and at which level Fethiye is among the other national and international cities will be presented by analyzing brand concept, components of brand and the relationship between these components.The research is a questionnaire study and it has been carried out by the people living in the Fethiye county seat, staff of Fethiye municipality and tourists in Fethiye. As a consequence of the study, it is seen that Fethiye has the core values to be a brand city but it doesn't fulfill the primary elements of branding and needed/sufficient investment is not made. Therefore, all of the shareholders especially Fethiye Minicipality need to determine a road map using Turkey's Tourism Strategy of 2023 as a base. Along with the steps taken in this purpose, there is no obstacle against Fethiye's being brand city. Keywords: Brand, Brand City, Local Governments, Fethiye Municipality.
