Aydınlanma ve Sanayi Devrimleri modern toplumun kuruluşunda önemli bir yere sahiptir. Akılcılık, sekülerizasyon, bürokrasi modern toplumun ana parametrelerindendir. Bireysel benliklerin gelişme mekanizmalarının ve toplumsal kolektif bilincin oluşumunun aydınlatılması, bireylerin yaşam dünyalarının anlamlarının analizine yardımcı olmuştur. Bu dünyaların çeşitliliğinin nedeni farklı zihinsel tahayyüllerdir. Eylemler, düşüncenin ürünü olarak ortaya çıkarlar. Düşünce ise imgeler ve kavramların birleştirilmesi yoluyla meydana gelir. İmgeler düşüncenin yapıtaşlarıdır.İnsanlığın doğuşuyla beraber var olan imgeler, geleneksel toplumdan modern topluma, modern toplumdan postmodern topluma birikerek, değişerek aktarılmıştır.İmgelerin bu aktarımında, toplumsal yaşamda yer bulmalarında ekonomik, siyasi, kültürel değişimler önemli yer alırlar. İmgeler, nesnel veya öznel düzlemlerde kendilerini gösterirler. Kendilerini gösteriş biçimlerinin farklılığı zihinsel tasarımların da farklılığına neden olduğundan imgelerin güvenirliği tartışmalıdır.Modernitenin son aşaması olan postmodernite teknolojinin, sosyal, kültürel ve siyasi değişimlerin yoğun yaşandığı bir dönemdir. İmgeler toplumsal gerçekliğin içinde daha fazla rol almaya başlamışlardır. Bu nedenle postmodern toplum bir imge toplumudur. Görsel düşünme, haz ve doyum arayışları postmodern imge toplumu bireyinin niteliklerindendir. Sanat, iletişim, ekonomi disiplinlerinde imgelerle ilgili çalışmalar olmasına karşın imgeler, sosyolojide yeterince incelenmemiş, toplumsal gerçeklikteki rolleri araştırılmamıştır. Bu çalışma imgelerin bireysel ve toplumsal bilincin değişimindeki etkilerini göstererek alana katkıda bulunmayı amaçlamaktadır. Anahtar Kelimeler: Modernite, Postmodernite, İmge, İmge Toplumu.
Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution have a significant position in modern society. Rationalism, secularization and the bureaucracy are the main parameters of the modern society. The illumination of mechanisms of personal individuality‘s development and the formation social collective consciousness has helped to analyze the meaning of life-worlds of people. The cause of this diversity is different mental imaginations. Actions occur as a product of thought. The thought occurs through the combination of images and concepts. The images are the building blocks of thought.Images, existed with the birth of humanity were transmitted by changing cumulatively from traditional society to a modern society and from modern society to postmodern society. Economic, political and cultural variance has an importance in during this transformation process of images and finding place in society. Images demonstrate themselves on objective and subjective areas. Diversity of demonstration causes the diversity of forms of minds. Because of this situation, the reliability of images is controversial.The post-modernity which is the last step of modernity is the period of which social, political, cultural changes occur extensively. The images have begun to take a greater role in the social reality. Therefore, postmodern society is an image of society.Visual thinking, pursuit of pleasure and satisfaction are the qualities the people of postmodern image society. Although there are many studies about images in some disciplines such as art, economy and communication, they have not been studied in sociology sufficiently and their roles in social reality have not been investigated.
