Değişen tüketim kültürü ve tüketim toplumu ile beraber tüketim, insanların sadece fiziksel ihtiyaçlarını karşıladıkları bir süreç olmaktan çıkmıştır. Yeni tüketim toplumunda tüketiciler fiziksel ihtiyaçlarının yanında sosyal, kültürel ve psikolojik ihtiyaçlarını da belli başlı ürünleri ve hizmetleri tüketerek gidermeye çalışmaktadırlar. Çalışmada, tüketicilerin fiziksel olmayan ihtiyaçlarını gidermek için yaptıkları tüketimlerini anlatan gösteriş amaçlı tüketim ve sembolik tüketim araştırılmıştır. Bu tür tüketim şekilleri gençler arasında daha yaygın olduğundan genç tüketiciler incelenmiştir. Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesinde 437 öğrenci ile yapılan anket çalışması sonucunda elde edilen veriler kullanılmıştır. İstatistiki analizler SPSS programı yardımıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre; genç erkek tüketiciler, üst gelir grubundaki genç tüketiciler ve kendisini "üst kesim" olarak ifade eden genç tüketiciler gösteriş tüketimi eğilimi göstermektedirler. Genç kadın tüketiciler, orta gelir grubundaki genç tüketiciler ve kendisini üst kesim olarak nitelendiren genç tüketiciler ise sembolik tüketim eğilimi göstermektedirler. With changing consumption culture and consumer society, consumption is no longer just a pricess that meets the people physical needs. İn the new consumption society consumers try to resolve social, cultural, and psychological needs by consuming the certain products and services besides the physical needs. In this study, conspicuous consumption and symbolic consumption were examined. These consumption kinds describes nonphysical consumption of consumers which is for fulfilling the their needs. This kind of consumption patterns are mostly common among the youngs, so in the study they will be examined. There was used survey data that was made face to face with 437 students of Süleyman Demirel University. Statistical analysis of this study was made by SPSS data analysis programme. Finally, obtained results show that young male consumers, young consumers in high income level, and young consumers which describe himself "upper section" show conspicuous consumption trends. Young female consumers, medium income level groups, and young consumers which describe himself "upper section" show symbolic consumption trends.
