Türkiye, İkinci Dünya Savaşı'na girmemesine rağmen, sınırlarında cereyan eden savaş dolayısıyla bir milyona yakın genç askere alınmıştır. Savaş yıllarında toplumsal yapının ve ekonominin savaş koşullarına göre düzenlenmesi, savaşa katılan ülkelerle ticari ilişkilere sahip olması Türkiye'yi sosyal ve ekonomik açıdan etkilemiştir. Nüfusun yaklaşık %80'ini oluşturan ve milli gelire en büyük katkıyı sağlayan köylü, milli gelirin önemli bir kısmının tarım sektöründen sağlanması dolayısıyla savaş buhranından en fazla etkilenen kesim olmuştur. Savaşın başlaması ile önlemlerini arttıran hükümet, 1940 yılında kabul ettiği Milli Korunma Kanunu ile köylüye çok daha fazla iş yükümlülüğü getirmiştir. Askere alımların hızlanmasının milli müdafaa masraflarının artmasına neden olması ve Toprak Mahsulleri Ofisi aracılığı ile bu masrafların karşılanması, ürünlerin değerini ve vergi oranlarını yükseltmiştir. Savaş döneminde ülkede kıtlık yaşanmaması için köylü daha fazla hububat ekmeye zorlanmış, bu durum ağırlıklı olarak sanayi bitkisi, sebze ve meyve yetiştiren Ege köylüsünü etkilemiştir. Ayrıca Ege köylüsü diğer bölge köylülerinden farklı olarak coğrafi koşullarının da uygun olması neticesinde, ticari değeri yüksek ürünlere eğilim göstermiştir. Savaş döneminde ihracat ve ithalat yollarında sıkıntıların yaşanması ülke ekonomisi kadar Ege ekonomisini de etkilemiştir. Savaş koşullarında köylünün sosyo-ekonomik durumunun tespitinde, bu süreçteki uygulama ve kanunlar Ege Bölgesi örneğinde ele alınmıştır. Bu dönem boyunca hükümetin köylüyü destekleme politikaları irdelenerek savaş yıllarında Ege köylüsünün sosyo-ekonomik durumu ayrıntılı olarak incelenmiştir. Savaş yıllarındaki uygulamalardan Ege köylüsünün ne kadar etkilendiğini anlamak için hayvancılık ve hayvan ürünleri, mahsul rekolteleri, ürünlerin ekimi; hasat tarihleri ve doğal afetler göz önünde bulundurularak tespit edilmiş ve bu veriler Türkiye geneli ile karşılaştırılarak, savaş yıllarında Ege köylüsünün sosyo-ekonomik durumu incelenmiştir. Although Turkey didn't enter the Second World War, nearly a million young men were enlisted to army because of the conflict that was occurring at its border. Turkey was socially and economically affected during the war because of the change in social structure and economy as a result of the war conditions and because of its commercial relations with the countries participating in war. The peasants, who constituted approximately 80% of the population and who contributed to national income more than any other class, was the most affected group by the war conditions as the highest contribution to the national income came from the agricultural sector. As the government increased precautions with the beginning of the war, more obligations were imposed upon the peasants with the National Security Law that was accepted in 1940. The increase in nation defense costs with the acceleration of military procurement and meeting these needs through the Turkish Grain Board, caused an increase in tax rates and the value of products. In order to prevent famine in the country during the war, peasants were forced to cultivate more grain and this situation affected the Aegean peasants, who mostly cultivated industrial plants, vegetables, and fruits. Moreover, unlike the peasants of other regions, the Aegean peasants tended to cultivate products which had a high commercial value as a result of the suitable geographical conditions. The problems along the import and export paths during the war, affected the Aegean economy as much as it affected the economy of the country. While the socio-economic impacts of the war conditions were discussed, the examples of applications and laws practiced in the Aegean Region used. Information about the policies of the government to support the peasants during this period were examined in order to analyse in detail the socio-economic effects the war had on the Aegean peasants. In order to understand at what level the Aegean peasants were affected from the practices of the government during the war, livestock breeding and animal products, crop yields, and the cultivation of products were determined by also considering harvest dates and natural disasters, and all these data were compared with the data from the rest of Turkey in order to analyze the socio-economic effects of the war on the Aegean peasant.
