Bu çalışmada öncelikle kırsal yaşamda eğitim tarihsel süreç içerisinde ortaya konmuştur. Türkiye Cumhuriyeti'nin ilk yıllarındaki eğitim anlayışına, Köy Enstitüleri deneyimine ve enstitülerin kapatılmasından günümüze kadar gelen kırsal yaşama yönelik eğitim politikalarına değinilmektedir. Çalışma, bir eğitim sosyolojisi araştırması olarak tasarlanmıştır. Sosyolojik kuramlara göre eğitim anlayışları ortaya konarak, farklı sosyolojik bakış açılarının eğitimi nasıl değerlendirdiğine açıklık getirilmektedir. Özellikle eğitime yönelik çatışmacı paradigmanın sunduğu argümanlar, eğitime erişim tartışmalarında öne çıkmaktadır. Çalışmanın temel problem alanı, kırsal yaşamdaki eğitime erişim sorunlarıdır. Bir durum çalışması olan araştırmanın alan uygulaması, Muğla'da iki ortaokulda öğrenim gören öğrencilerden hareketle, toplam yedi köyde yer alan on sekiz hanede görüşmeler yapılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Nitel araştırmanın ilkelerini benimseyen çalışmada elde edilen veriler öncelikle içerik analizi tekniğiyle incelenmiştir. Diğer analiz ise görüşmelerin öyküleştirilerek birer anlatıya dönüştürülmesiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Anlatılardan yola çıkarak Muğla köylerinde yaşayanların eğitime bakışları, eğitimden ne bekledikleri, eğitime erişimde karşılaşılan problemler belirlenmiştir. Böylece, kırsal yaşama yönelik daha etkin bir eğitim politikasının nasıl şekillendirilebileceği ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır. Primarily in this study, education in rural life is presented in a historical context. The understanding of education in the foundation years of the Republic of Turkey, Village Institutes and the educational policies for the rural life from the closure of the Village Institutes are the main issues mentioned in the study. The study is designed as an educational sociology research. The assessments of various sociological theories about education are deeply examined by presenting the understandings of education according to theories of sociology. Particularly the arguments of conflict paradigm are seen in the discussion of education and inequality of opportunity. Access to education in rural life is one of the basic problems of this research. Designed as a case study, interviews were conducted with eighteen households (seven villages in total) of students studying at two different secondary schools in Muğla. Based on the principles of qualitative research, data from the interviews were analyzed using content analysis. The findings were also presented as a plot, using narrative analysis. The participants' views on education, their problems about access to education and their expectations from the education are identified based on the narratives. Thus, this study tries to answer how more efficient policy of education for rural life can be formed.
