Bu çalışmada, ortaöğretim 9. sınıf Biyoloji dersi öğretim programında yer alan "Canlılar Dünyası" ünitesi Hücre Zarından Madde Geçişi konusunun öğretiminde kavram karikatürleri kullanımının öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına ve tutumlarına etkisini incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi 2015–2016 eğitim öğretim yılının 2. döneminde Gaziantep Şahinbey İMKB Anadolu Lisesinde iki ayrı 9. sınıfta öğrenim gören toplam 65 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Rastgele seçim yoluyla sınıflardan biri deney grubu, diğeri ise kontrol grubu olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışma 33 öğrenciden oluşan deney grubu ve 32 öğrenciden oluşan kontrol grubu ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Deney ve kontrol gruplarında "Hücre" konusu yapılandırmacı yaklaşım çerçevesinde işlenmiştir. Öğretmen, deney grubunda dersleri kavram karikatürlerine dayalı etkinlikler kullanarak zenginleştirirken, kontrol grubunda dersleri yapılandırmacı yaklaşım çerçevesinde kavram karikatürlerine dayalı etkinlikler kullanmaksızın işlemiştir. Yanlılığı ortadan kaldırmak için dersler her iki grupta da aynı öğretmen tarafından işlenmiştir. Uygulama öncesinde ve sonrasında her iki gruba da veri toplama araçları uygulanmıştır. Biyoloji Tutum Ölçeği (BTÖ) ve Osmoz Difüzyon Kavram Testi (ODKT) çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın nicel verileri SPSS 16.0 paket programı kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmada elde edilen nicel verilerin analizi bağımlı (eşli) ve bağımsız gruplar t-testleri kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Yapılan analizler sonucunda elde edilen bulgulara göre; deney ve kontrol gruplarının ODKT ve BTÖ ön test puanlarının bağımsız gruplar t-testi kullanılarak karşılaştırılması neticesinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir fark tespit edilmemesi nedeniyle (p>0.05) kontrol ve deney gruplarının denk olduğu düşünülmüştür. Deney ve kontrol gruplarındaki öğrencilerin son test tutum puanları bağımsız gruplar t-testi kullanılarak karşılaştırıldığında ise aralarında biyoloji dersine yönelik tutumları bakımından anlamlı bir fark bulunamamıştır (p>0.05). Bu sonuç, öğrencilerin biyoloji dersine yönelik tutumlarının uygulama sonrasında da benzer olduğuna işaret etmektedir. Dolayısıyla kavram karikatürlerine dayalı etkinliklerin öğrencilerin biyoloji dersine ilişkin tutumları üzerinde etkili olmamıştır. Deney ve kontrol gruplarındaki öğrencilerin son test ODKT başarı puanları bağımsız gruplar t-testi kullanılarak karşılaştırıldığında ise gruplar arasında osmoz-difüzyon kavram testi başarıları bakımından istatistiksel anlamlı bir fark bulunduğu görülmüştür (p<0.05). Bu sonuç deney grubundaki öğrencilerin kontrol grubundaki öğrencilerden sadece başarılı olduğunu göstermektedir. Çalışmamızın sonuçları; osmoz-difüzyon konusunun öğretiminde kavram karikatürleri kullanımının öğrencilerin konuyla ilgili kavramları ve kavramlar arası ilişkileri daha üst düzeyde öğrenmelerini kolaylaştırarak konuyla ilgili daha ileri öğrenme düzeyine erişmelerini kolaylaştırdığını ortaya koymaktadır. In the current study, we aimed to investigate the possible effects of using concept cartoons while teaching the unit ''Matter transportation from the cell membrane" in the 9th grade Biology Lesson, on students'academic achievement and attitudes. The study is an experimental study which is suitable using the pre-test and post-test. The sample of the study consists of 65 students learning ninth grade at İ.M.K.B High school in the second term of 2015-2016 education year in Gaziantep. The control and experimental groups were randomly assigned. From these groups; 32 students took part in control group and 33 students took part in experimental group. The topic of ''Cell'' was taught within the framework of the constructivist approach in both of the control and experimental groups. Teacher enriched his/her lessons using concept cartoons based facilities in experimental group and he/she taught her lessons consistent with traditional constructivist approach without concept cartoons based facilities. Both of the groups were taught by the same teacher to avoid being a side of one group. Data collection tools were applied to both of the groups before and after application. Biology Attitude Scale (BAS) and Osmosis Diffusion Concept Test (ODCT) were used as data collection tools in the study. The quantitative data of the current study was analyzed by using SPSS 16.0 program. The quantitative data of the current study were evaluated by using Paired Sample and Independent Samples t-tests. When the pre-test points of control and experimental groups were compared using Independent Sample t-Test, the result showed that there was no statistically significant differences between the both groups with respect to the mean points of ODCT and BAS (p>0.05) . This result indicates that control and experimental groups were academically equal. When the post attitude test points of the student groups were compared using Independent sample t-Test, there were no statistically significant difference between the groups with respect to their attitudes towards biology lesson (p>0.05). This result indicates that students' attitudes toward biology were still similar after the instruction. This situation shows that cartoons were not effective on students' attitudes toward biology lesson. When the post-test points of control and experimental groups were compared using Independent Sample t-Test, the result showed that there was statistically significant differences between the both groups with respect to the mean points of ODCT (p<0.05). This result indicates that the students in the experimental group are more successful than the students in the control group. Results of this study suggest that, using concept cartoons based argumentation activities during the instruction of osmosis and diffusion, actively facilitates students to learn the related concepts and interrelations and promotes them to reach higher learning achievements of the related subject.
