Bu tez çalışmasının amacı, G-20 ülkelerinin, çeşitli indeksler kullanılarak ihracat rekabet güçlerinin belirlenmesidir. Ayrıca SITC teknoloji sınıflandırmasına göre elde edilen RCA değerleri ile toplam ihracat arasındaki ilişkiyi açıklamaya yönelik panel veri regresyon analizi yapılarak ülkeler için geçerli bir ihracat fonksiyonunun oluşturulması tezin nihai amacıdır. Bu hedefler doğrultusunda tez üç bölümden oluşmaktadır. Tezin birinci bölümünde, rekabet ve rekabet gücü kavramları teorik düzeyde ele alınmıştır. Rekabet gücü yazınında, rekabet gücü kavramını açıklamaya yönelik ortak ve üzerinde fikir birliğine varılmış tek bir tanımın olmadığı görülmüştür. Bu nedenle firma düzeyinde, endüstri düzeyinde ve uluslararası düzeyde rekabet gücü tanımlamalarına yer verilmiştir. Daha sonra rekabet gücünü belirleyen ve etkileyen faktörler üzerinde durulmuştur. Son olarak rekabet gücünü açıklamaya yönelik klasik ve modern yaklaşımlar ele alınmış ve rekabet gücünün ölçümünde kullanılan açıklanmış karşılaştırmalı üstünlük katsayıları ile ilgili teorik bilgilere yer verilmiştir. Tezin ikinci bölümünde ise ihracat rekabet gücünü belirlemeye yönelik analizler yapılmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında G-20'deki (AB hariç) 19 ülke, zaman dilimi olarak da 1996'dan 2014'e 19 yıllık periyod kullanılmıştır. İhracat rekabet gücünü belirlemeye yönelik Açıklanmış Karşılaştırmalı Üstünlük katsayıları (RCA, Revealed Comparative Advantage) dört farklı indeks (Balassa İndeksi, Vollrath İndeksi, İhracat-İthalat Oranı İndeksi ve Net İhracat İndeksi) kullanılarak hesaplanmıştır. Balassa ve Vollrath İndeksi sonuçlarına göre; Almanya 113, Avustralya 56, Çin 96, Fransa 112, İtalya 110, Japonya 76, Rusya 38, Suudi Arabistan 8 ve Türkiye'nin 87 ürün grubunda dünya ölçeğinde rekabet avantajına sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Teknoloji sınıflandırmasına göre; Almanya'nın sermaye yoğun ve zor taklit, Fransa'nın sermaye yoğun ve zor taklit, İtalya'nın emek yoğun, sermaye yoğun ve zor taklit ve Türkiye'nin ise emek yoğun ve sermaye yoğun malların ihracatında karşılaştırmalı rekabet gücüne sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. İhracat-İthalat Oranı İndeksi'ne göre ise Almanya'nın 128, ABD'nin 161, Çin'in 146, Hindistan'ın 146, Kanada'nın 88 ve Türkiye'nin ise 111 ürün grubunun ihracatında uzmanlaştığı ve bu ürün gruplarında rekabet gücüne sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Net İhracat İndeksi sonuçlarına göre ise Almanya 147, Brezilya 101, Hindistan 123, İtalya 124, Meksika 82, Suudi Arabistan 30 ve Türkiye 87 ürün grubunda rekabet avantajına sahiptir. Tezin üçüncü ve son bölümünde ise; toplam ihracatın, teknoloji sınıflandırmasına ait RCA katsayılarından nasıl etkilendiğini belirleyebilmek amacıyla, panel veri regresyon analizi yapılmıştır. Modelin elde edilen sonuçlarına göre, toplam ihracatın; sermaye yoğun, kolay taklit ve zor taklit edilebilen araştırma bazlı malların RCA katsayılarından olumlu yönde etkilendiği; emek yoğun ve hammadde yoğun sektörlerin RCA katsayılarından ise olumsuz etkilendiği sonucuna varılmıştır. This doctoral thesis aims at analyzing export competitiveness of G-20 countries by using a variety of different indexes. Moreover, the final aim of the thesis is composing a feasible export function via applying a panel data regression analysis to explain the relationship between RCA values obtained according to SITC technological classification and total exports. With these aims, the thesis is divided three sections. In the first chapter, terms of competition and competitiveness are discussed in theoretical ground. In the competitiveness literature, there is no agreed commonly-used term of competitiveness. For this reason, three different description of competitiveness are held in the firm level, industry level and international level. After that, it is mainly focused on the determinations and influential factors of competitiveness. Finally, classical and modern approaches on competitiveness are argued as well as the theory of comparative advantage coefficient which is used to measure competitiveness is held in the section. In the second chapter, it is aimed at determination of export competitiveness analysis. Within the scope of this work, nineteen countries (excluding EU itself) are examined during the period of nineteen years from 1996 to 2014. Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA hereafter) is calculated by using four different indexes, namely Balassa Index, Vollrath Index, Export-Import Rate Index, and Net Export Index. According to Balassa and Vollrath Index results, it is found that countries have competitive advantage on various number of product groups worldwide which are showed as follows; Germany 113, Australia 56, China 96, France 112, Italy 110, Japan 76, Russia 38, Saudi Arabia 8 and Turkey 87. In accordance with technology classification; it is specified that Germany and France have competitive advantages on capital-intensive and hard to imitate goods while Italy has it on labor-intensive, capital-intensive, and hard to imitate goods and Turkey has comparative advantage on labor-intensive and capital-intensive goods. Also, with respect to Export-Import Rate Index, it is ascertained that some countries specialized on number of product groups such as Germany (128), US (161), China (146), India (146), Canada (88), and Turkey (111) and these countries have competitiveness on those product groups. In Net Export Index findings, it is seen that following countries have competitiveness advantage on number of products; Germany 147, Brazil 101, India 123, Italy 124, Mexico 82, Saudi Arabia 30, and Turkey 87. In the last chapter of the thesis; panel data regression analysis is used to examine to detect how total export affected by technological classification of RCA coefficient. According to the model's results, it is concluded that total export has a positive effect on RCA coefficients of capital-intensive, easy-to-imitate and research- based hard-to-imitate goods whilst it has a negative influence on labor-intensive and raw material-intensive sectors.
