Son yıllarda çalışma hayatında fazlaca gördüğümüz kadınlar, kariyer yönelimli ve profesyonel işler yaparak kendilerini geliştirmek istemektedir. Erkeklerin de kariyerlerini geliştirmeleri çift kariyerli eşlerin/ailelerin sayısını gün geçtikçe arttırmaktadır. Böyle olan aileler hem işte hem de evde yoğun bir yaşam sürdürmektedir. Eşler kariyerinde yükselme kaynaklı stresler, huzursuzluklar yaşayabilmekte iken, evde ise evlilik ve çocuk sorumlulukları ağır gelebilmektedir. Son zamanlarda popüler olan işyerinde mutluluk kavramı, iş tatmininden farklı değerlendirilen bir konudur ve işyerindeki mutluluğun çift kariyerli aile hayatına nasıl bir etkisinin olacağı merak edilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı; çift kariyerli eşlerin mutluluklarının incelenmesi, çift kariyerli olmaya dair tutumları ve bu tutumlarının mutluluk üzerindeki etkisi incelenmek istenmiştir. Isparta Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesinde bulunan çift kariyerli akademisyenler üzerine yapılan bu çalışma, kartopu yöntemiyle seçilmiş 244 karı-kocanın katılımı sağlanarak yapılmıştır. Yüz yüze anket yöntemi uygulanarak veriler toplanmıştır. Ankette; akademisyen eşlere ait demografik bilgiler, eşlerin çift kariyerli olmaya yönelik tutumları, çocuk sayısı ve çocuk yapmaya dair tutumları, işyerindeki ve evdeki mutluluğun değerlendirilmesine yönelik veriler ölçülmek istenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara göre; literatürün aksine çocuk sahibi olmak çift kariyerli akademisyenler için olumsuz değildir. Birden fazla çocuk sahibi olan çiftler işyerinde daha mutludur. Ailedeki mutluluk ve işyerindeki mutluluk anlamlı biçimde birbirini etkilemektedir. Çift kariyerli olmaya yönelik olumsuz tutum içinde olan akademisyen eşler, işyerinde ve evde mutsuzdurlar. Kadınlar ailedeki ve iş yaşamındaki sorumluluklarını iki kat üstlenirken, kariyer konusunda eşlerine göre bir adım daha önde devam etmekte oldukları kanıtlanmıştır. Women, whom we have been seeing in the working life too much in the recent years, desire to improve themselves by doing career-oriented and professional jobs. Men also improve their career, which is increasing the number of dual-career spouses/families day by day. Such families sustain a busy life both at work and home. While spouses may experience stresses and unrest induced by promotion in their career, the responsibilities of marriage and children may be considered too difficult at home. Having become popular recently, the concept of well-being in the workplace is a subject which is evaluated differently from job satisfaction, and one wonders what kind of relationship well-being in the workplace will have with the dual-career family life. This study aimed to examine the well-being of dual-career spouses and to explore their attitudes towards being dual-career and the relationship of these attitudes of theirs with well-being in the workplace and at home. Carried out on the dual-career academics at Süleyman Demirel University in Isparta, this study was performed by providing the participation of 244 academic couples selected with the snowball method. The data were collected by employing the face-to-face questionnaire method. The demographic information about the academic couples as well as scales for the evaluation of the attitudes of spouses towards being dual-career, of the number of children and their attitudes towards having children and of well-being in the workplace and at home were used in the questionnaire. According to the findings obtained, having children is not negative for dual-career academics, which is contrary to the literature. The couples with more than one child are happier in the workplace. Well-being in the family and well-being in the workplace are significantly interrelated. The academic couples with a negative attitude towards being dual-career are unhappier in the workplace and at home. While the women assume their responsibilities in the family and in the working life twofold, they have been proved to proceed by being one step further than their spouses with respect to academic studies.
