Günümüzde Türkiye ekonomisinin en önemli sorunlardan biri yüksek cari işlemler açığıdır. Bu açık aynı zamanda Türkiye ekonomisini dış piyasalarda meydana gelen şoklara karşı da kırılgan hale getirmektedir. Bu noktada cari işlemler açığının nedenlerinin tespit edilmesi ve sürdürülebilirlik düzeyinin ortaya konması büyük önem arz etmektedir. Cari işlemler açığı kontrol altına alınabildiğinde ülkenin sürdürülebilir yüksek bir ekonomik büyüme düzeyi yakalaması çok daha kolay olacaktır. Bu kapsamda çalışmanın amacı; Türkiye'de cari işlemler açığının nedenlerini ve finansman yapısını belirlemek, sürdürülebilirliğini ekonometrik olarak analiz etmektir. Çalışmada 2000:M01-2015:M05 dönemi cari gelir ve cari gider verileri kullanılmıştır. Serilerin logaritmaları alınmış ve mevsim etkilerinden arındırılmıştır. Serilerin durağanlığı ADF (1979), PP (1988) ve KPSS (1992) ile test edilmiştir. Serilerin düzey değerlerindeki hallerinin durağan olmadığı ancak birinci farklarının durağan olduğu belirlenmiştir. Seriler arasında nedensellik ilişkisinin varlığı Granger (1969) yöntemi ile incelenmiş ve cari gelirlerden cari giderlere doğru tek yönlü bir nedensellik ilişkisinin var olduğu görülmüştür. Seriler arasında eşbütünleşme ilişkisinin varlığı Engle-Granger (1987) yöntemiyle incelenmiş ve serilerin eşbütünleşik olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Uzun dönem analizi, Husted (1992) yaklaşımı çerçevesinde, DEKK yöntemi ile tahmin edilmiş ve cari giderler değişkeninin katsayısı 0.88 bulunmuştur. Bu katsayı birden küçük olduğu için ilgili dönemde Türkiye'de cari işlemler açığının zayıf formda sürdürülebilir olduğuna karar verilmiştir. Kısa dönem analizi hata düzeltme modeli çerçevesinde yine DEKK yöntemi ile yapılmış ve modelin hata düzeltme mekanizmasının çalıştığı tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan bu çalışma kullanılan veri seti ve yöntemler itibariyle diğer çalışmalardan ayrışmakta olup çalışmanın bu yönüyle literatüre bir katkı sağlaması beklenmektedir. Today, one of the most important problems of the Turkish economy is high current account deficit. This deficit also makes Turkish economy more fragile agains the shocks in foreing markets. At this point it is very important to identify the reasons of the current account deficit and to discover the sustainability level. When the current accoun deficit can be controlled, it will be much easier for the country to gain a sustainable high economical development level. In this context, the purpose of the study is to determine the reasons and financing structure of current account deficit in Turkey, analyze its sustainability by using econometric medhods. In this study, 2000:M01-2015:M05 term current account income and current account expenditure data have been used. The logarithms of the serials have been taken and cleared of the seasonal effects. The stability of the serials has been tested by ADF (1979), PP (1988) and KPSS (1992). It has been seen that the serials are not stable at the level values; they are stable when their first difference is given. The existence of the co-integration relationship between the serials has been examined with the method of Granger (1969) and it has been seen that there is a casuality relationship from current account income towards current account expenditure in one direction. The existence of the co-integration relationship between the serials has been examined with the method of Engle-Granger (1987) and it has been discovered that the serials are cointegtrated. The long period analysis in Husted (1992) approach has been guessed with DOLS method and current account expenditure variable's cofficient was 0.88. Because this cofficient is less than 1, it has beeen decided that the current account deficid in Turkey is sustainable in weak form for this period. The short period analisis has been made in the error correction model with DOLS method again and it has been determined that the error correction mechanism works. This study differs from the other studies with the aplied data set and methods and it is expected that it will contribute to the literatüre with this aspect.
