Bu araştırma Irak'ta Petrol Endüstrisi, Ticareti ve Taşımacılığını konu edinmektedir. Ortadoğu'da, Arap Yarımadası'nın kuzey doğusunda 29o-37o kuzey enlemleri ile 38o-48o doğu boylamları arasında konumlanan ve Kuzeyde Türkiye, batıda Suriye ve Ürdün, doğuda İran, güneyde Suudi Arabistan ve Kuveyt, güney doğusunda Arap Körfezi arasında yer alan Irak Ortadoğu'da stratejik bir konum teşkil etmektedir (Harita 1). Irak, dünyanın en zengin doğal kaynaklarına sahip olan ülkelerin arasında yer alan bir ülkedir. Bu yüzden bu çalışmada bir yandan Irak'ın stratejik konumu, diğer yandan zengin olduğu ham petrol rezervleri, endüstrisi ve taşımacılığı ele alınmıştır. Irak'ın konumlandığı bu stratejik alan aynı zamanda karmaşık ve istikrarsız bir bölgedir. Ayrıca Irak'ı dünyaya bağlayan tek deniz yolu Basar Körfezi'dir. Deniz işletmeciliği ve deniz ham petrol ihracatı bu körfezden yapılmaktadır. Ancak bu deniz ticaret yolu, petrol ihracatı için yeterli olmamaktadır. Bu nedenle ham petrol ihracatı boru hattı yolları ile taşınmaktadır. Boru hatları, ekonomik açıdan en uygun taşıma aracı olmasına rağmen, bu tür projelerde ham petrol borularının komşu ülke toprakları üzerinde uzun mesafelerde uzatıldığı için bazı sorunlar ortaya çıkabilmektedir. Çalışmada, Irak'ta bulunan petrol sahaları üzerinde durulmaktadır. Bilindiği gibi Irak'ın, petrol rezervlerinin ve sahalarının büyük kısmı ülkenin doğu kesinminde, Kerkük, Bay Hasan, Jambur ve güney kesimde, Rumaila, Zübeyr, Kurna, Batı Kurna, Mecnun alanı alanlarında yer almaktadır. Irak'ın ilk petrol kuyusu 1927 yılında açılmasına rağmen, Irak'ta ticari petrol üretimi, 1934 yılından sonra başlamıştır. 1934 yılında petrol üretimi 1 milyon tonun altında olup, bu miktar gittikçe artarak 1980 yılında 138 milyon tona, 2014 yılında 160 milyon tona ulaşmıştır. Çalışmada yapılan haritalar, ArcMap GIS 10.2 programında çizilmiştir.
The scope of this study is Petroleum Industry and Trade and Shipping in Iraq. Located in Middle East, to the northeastern of Arabian Peninsula, between 29o-37o North and 38o-48o East, bordered by the countries of Turkey to the north, Syria and Lebanon to the west, Iran to the east, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to the south and Persian Gulf to the southeast, Iraq poses a strategical location in Middle East (map 1). Iraq can be counted among the countries owning the richest natural resources. Thus, this study involves the investigation of its strategic location, crude oil reserves, industry as well as its shipping capacity. This location where Iraq is situated is a controversial and unstable region though. The Persian Gulf is the single sea route connecting Iraq to the rest of the world. Iraq runs its maritime industry and petroleum export via this sea route. However, this sea route is not sufficient for petroleum export. Thus, petroleum pipelines are used for crude oil export as well. Though pipelines are the most affordable way of shipping the oil, there might be problems in such projects as the pipelines extend through neighboring countries for long distances. This study also explores the oil fields in Iraq. A major part of Iraq's oil resources lies in eastern part of the country, namely Kirkuk, Bay Hasan, Jambur and in southern part of the country, namely Rumaila, Zubeyr, Kurna and Mecnun. Commercial oil production started after the year 1934 in Iraq though the first oil well was drilled in 1927. The total production was below 1 million tones in 1934. This number reached up to 138 million tones in 1980 and up to 160 million tones in 2014. The study maps were drawn through ArcMap GIS 10.2.
