Disporanın sürekli değişen bilincinde mekânsal, psikolojik ve metafizik ev, kimlik, din veya hafıza algıları daima hareket halindedir ve tehlikeli bir cazibesi vardır. Bu tezde Büyük Britanya'daki Jamaika diasporası bağlamında "kimlik" ve "ev" terimlerinin analiz edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Diasporik ev kavramı kaybedilen vatana karşı hissedilen karşılıksız özlemden ziyade bir aidiyet özlemidir. Bu nedenle, bu çalışmada diasporik kimlik oluşumunun çeşitli yönleri ile aidiyet duygusu sömürgecilik sonrasındaki göçler, çoklu kültür, melezlik ve ırkçılık kapsamında ele alınmıştır. Bu tezde, diasporik toplumlarda ortaya çıkan melez kimliklerin tarihsel altyapısını keşfetmek amacıyla sömürge dönemi ve sömürge sonrası dönem incelenmiştir. Büyük Britanya'da yaşayan Karayip diasporasını ve ev imgesini analiz etmek amacıyla, Karayipli bir aile tarafından Britanya'da dünyaya getirilen Andrea Levy'nin yazmış olduğu Limonun Meyvesi ve Küçük Ada romanları seçilmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Anavatan olarak adlandırılan Britanya'da yaşayan Karayip diasporasının kimlik oluşumu ve aidiyet duygusuna ilişkin yaşadıkları sorunların ortaya konulması amaçlanmıştır. Bu tezde söz konusu romanlardan yola çıkılarak İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrasında gerçekleşen toplu göç kapsamında göç eden Karayiplilerin karşılaştıkları sorunlar, karmaşık kimlik oluşturma süreçleri ve hayatlarını şekillendiren aidiyet özleminin ele alınması amaçlanmıştır. In the kaleidoscopic consciousness of the diaspora, a diasporian's perceptions of spatial, psychological and metaphysical home, identity, religion, or memory are always in a flux, and perilously enthralling as well. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the terms "identity and home" within the context of Jamaican diaspora in the UK. The diasporic concept of home is more than an unreciprocated desire for a lost homeland; it is a 'homing desire'. Therefore, this study deals with the aspects of diasporic identity construction and a sense of belonging within the scope of postcolonial migration, multiculturalism, hybridity, and racism. In the thesis, colonial and postcolonial periods are examined to explore the historical background of hybrid identities which are formed within a diasporic community. To analyse the Caribbean diaspora living in the UK, diasporic identity, and the idea of home, two novels - Fruit of the Lemon and Small Island - written by Andrea Levy are selected since Levy was born in Britain to a Caribbean family. The study discusses and reveals the problems of identity construction and sense of belonging experienced by the Caribbean diasporians living in their Mother Country, Britain. Through the readings of the novels this thesis aims to discuss the drawbacks faced by the Caribbean people, who migrated during the mass migration period after the Second World War, their complex identity constructions and the homing desire shaping their lives.
