Hedefler ve değerler insan hayatında önemli rol oynamaktadır. Bireyler başarmak ya da diğerlerinden daha iyi olmak için çaba göstermektedir. Bu başarı sürecinde bireyler ustalık ve performans olarak isimlendirilen farklı başarı yönelim türlerini seçme eğilimi içindedir. Bu çalışmadaki hipotezler insan davranışını anlamada önemli motivasyon teorilerinden biri olan başarı hedef teorisine odaklanılarak geliştirilmiştir. Bireylerin ve toplulukların başarı hedef yönelimlerini tespit etmek onların gelecekteki kişisel ve toplumsal gelişimlerine ışık tutabilmektedir. Özellikle öğrencilerinin başarılarını şekillendirmelerinden ve hayatları boyunca başarılarına liderlik etmelerinden dolayı, ilkokuldan başlayarak üniversite eğitimini de kapsayan, eğitimcilerin başarı hedef yönelimlerinin incelenmesi gerektiği düşünülmektedir. Çalışma Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi akademisyenlerinin ustalık ve performans başarı hedefleri üzerinde bireysel değerlerin ve temel motivasyon kaynaklarının etkilerini araştırmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Regresyon analizi sonuçları; güç ve geleneksellik değerinin performans başarı hedefleri, güvenlik değerinin ustalık başarı hedefleri ayrıca başarı değerinin ise her iki başarı hedefi üzerinde pozitif yönde etkili olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Bu bulgulara ek olarak; temel motivasyon kaynağı alt boyutlarından olan başarı ihtiyacı performans başarı hedefleri üzerinde negatif etkiye sahipken, güç ihtiyacı pozitif etkiye sahiptir. Ayrıca düşünme ihtiyacının, değişime açıklık ile performans başarı hedefleri arasında, bağlanma ihtiyacının ise değişime açıklık ile ustalık başarı hedefleri arasında düzenleyici bir etkiye sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Buna ek olarak akademisyenlerin ustalık başarı hedefleri üzerinde ise temel motivasyon kaynaklarının tüm dört boyutunun (güç, düşünme, bağlanma, başarı) pozitif yönde etkili olduğu görülmektedir. Çalışma 2'nin sonuçları ise akademisyenlerin %73'ünün ders anlatma grubu yerine araştırma yapan grup içerisinde yer almayı seçtiklerini ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca iyilikseverlik değerleri araştırma yapmayı ya da ders anlatmayı tercih eden akademisyenler tarafından ortak bir değer olarak benimsenmektedir. Goals and values play important roles in humans' lives. Individuals strive to achieve or be better than others. In this achievement process the individuals tend to choose different types of achievement orientations which are called mastery and performance. Hypotheses are developed by focusing on achievement goal theory which has been one of the prominent motivation theories of understanding human behavior. Identifying the achievement goal orientations of individuals and communities may shed light on their future personal and societal improvements. Specifically, it is thought that educators' achievement orientations (starting from primary to university) should be examined since they shape and lead their students' success throughout their lives. Study 1 is aimed to investigate the cultural values and basic sources of motivation effects on academicians' adoptions of mastery and performance achievement goals of Süleyman Demirel University. Results of the regression analyses indicate the positive effects of power and tradition values on performance achievement goals and security values on mastery achievement goals, besides achievement values shows positive effects on both achievement goals. In addition to these findings; while the need for achievement which is one of the dimensions of basic motivation sources has negative effect on performance achievement goals, the other dimension called need for power has positive effect on performance achievement goals. Besides it had been identified that the need for cognition has a moderator effect on the relationship between openness to change and performance achievement goals and need for affiliation has a moderator effect on the relationship between openness to change and mastery achievement goals. In addition, it has been found out that all four dimensions of basic motivation sources (power, cognition, affiliation, achievement) have positive effect on academicians' mastery achievement goals. Study 2 results reveal that 73% of the academicians choose to be a part of a research group rather than to give lectures. Besides benevolence values are adopted as a common value by the academicians preferring to do research or to give lectures.
