Heiner Müller (1929-1995), çağdaş Alman tiyatrosunun en önemli yazarlarındandır. Müller Avrupa tiyatrosunda kabul görmüş, izleyicisini, okurunu çok etkilemiş ve halen en çok tartışılan yazarlardan biri olmuştur. Heiner Müller'in postmodern bir yazar olması ve oyunlarını postmodern çağın estetik değerlerine göre biçimlendirmesi doğrultusunda ilk bölümde postmodernitenin moderne bakarak tanımlanması ve arkasından postmodernin yazın yapıtlarındaki yöntemi olarak yapısalcılığa ve yapısalcılığın kavramlarına bir karşı çıkış olarak tanımlanan postyapısalcılığa değinilmiştir. Postmodernitenin temel kavramlarıyla ilişki içinde ortaya çıkan postmodern sanat yapıtının belirleyici nitelikleri ele alınmış, Müller'in oyunlarında ağırlıkla kullandığı yapıbozum, metinlerarasılık (alıntı, yenidenyazmak, kolaj, brikolaj, palempsest), parçalılık/süreksizlik/kopukluk, merkezsizleştirme gibi yöntemler irdelenmiştir. İkinci bölümde Müller'in hayatı ve tanımlanan yöntemler aracılığıyla oyunlarının genel özellikleri açıklanmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde ise metinlerarasılığın yöntemlerinden yola çıkarak Müller'in Hamlet Makinesi adlı oyununda Shakespeare'in Hamlet adlı oyununun yenidenyazımı ile ilgili biçimsel ve anlamsal dönüştürümler ele alınmıştır. Müller'in entelektüel bir yazar olması, onun metinlerinde, düşünce tarihinin çeşitli aşamalarını ve bu tarihteki önemli tartışmaları bulmamızı sağlar. Müller'in oyunlarında pek çok düşünür ve edebi kişilikle bir söyleşi ilişkisi içinde girdiği görülür. Bu doğrultuda Müller'in en fazla söyleştiği yazarlardan birisi de Shakespeare'dir. Heiner Müller (1929-1995), is one of the most distinguished playwrights of the contemporary German theatre. Müller has always been one of the writers who, gained acknowledgement on the European theatre stage, influencing his audience/readers and being still among one of the most debated playwrights. Due to his being a post-modern playwright and shaping his texts in accordance with the post-modern era's aesthetic values; the first section of this study is dedicated to the identification of the post-modern through looking at the modern; continuing with the structuralism -as a method of the modern literature and also intending to touch upon the postmodernism as a method of reaction towards the concepts of structuralism. The decisive qualities of the post modernity's artworks are approached through a perspective related with the basic concepts of the post modernity, in addition to examining the methods like deconstruction, intertextulity (citation, rewriting, collage, bricolage, palimpsest) fragmentation/ nonlinearity / marginalization. The second part is allotted to the life of Müller and the explanation of the general characteristics of his works by making use of the mentioned methods. Guided by the methods of intertextuality, the transformations undergone regarding the style and semantics in the processes of rewriting of Shakespeare's Hamlet, in Müller's Hamlet Machine, are viewed. Müller's being an intellectual playwright leads us to obtain information about the various phases of the history of ideas and the major debates within this within this frame of reference. He conveys the impression of communicating with the philosophers and figures of literature throughout his plays. Shakespeare is the playwright with whom he communicates mostly in this context. Müller, who interrelates with the various plays of Shakespeare on an intellectual level, embarks on rewriting of Shakespeare's Hamlet through its motives and actions in his Hamlet Machine. Müller, who transforms Shakespeare's Hamlet Machine stylistically and semantically, by using Hamlet as a tool, criticizes the negative values arising from the Marxist intellectuals and the Western Civilization. Heiner Müller reacts against the rationalism of the enlightenment, the utopia of the previous revolutions and the optimism of Marxist Communism through the play of Hamlet Machine.
