Projede, Fransız Devrimi ile birlikte siyasal ve düşünsel anlamda karşı bir tepki olarak ortaya çıkan muhafazakârlık kavramı, bu kavramın Batı dünyasındaki gelişimi ve Türkiye'ye yansıması, muhafazakârlık ve meslek kuruluşları arasındaki ilişki, Türk siyasi hayatında Demokrat Parti (DP) ve muhafazakârlık ve bu kapsamda muhafazakâr düşünce ve Türkiye Odalar ve Borsalar Birliği (TOBB) arasındaki ilişkiyi (1950-1954 dönemi) incelemek ve değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır. 1950 Seçimi ile iktidara gelen Demokrat Parti, bu dönem itibariyle yeni kurulan Türkiye Odalar ve Borsalar Birliği ile görüşmelere başladı. Kuruluş amacı doğrultusunda hükümete ekonomi ve ticari hayata ilişkin raporlar sunmakla yükümlü olan TOBB, kısa sürede hem yurt içinde hem de yurt dışında tanınır hale geldi. TOBB, haftalık neşir organı Türkiye İktisat Gazetesinde Türkiye ve dünyadaki ekonomik gelişmelere ve piyasalara ilişkin haberlere yer vererek ülkedeki tüm müessese ve kuruluşların yayınlarını takip ettiği kurumlardan biri oldu. Geleneksel değerler doğrultusunda kurulan ve hareket eden Ahi Teşkilatı'nın günümüz biçimlerinden biri olan TOBB, üyeleri itibariyle genel olarak muhafazakâr bir tabana sahiptir. Ziraattan esnaflığa, esnaflıktan tüccarlığa doğru yaşanılan gelişme beraberinde Türkiye Odalar ve Borsalar Birliği'nin DP ile yakınlaşmasını desteklemiştir. Bu sayede TOBB üyeleri, siyasal arenaya geçişte genellikle DP'yi tercih etmişlerdir. Özellikle 1954 Seçiminde bu durum kendini daha iyi göstermiştir. Muhafazakâr düşüncenin siyasal hayattaki temsilcisi olan DP, kendini oluşturan bu değerler üzerinden siyasal arenada farklı kesimlerin de temsilcisi haline gelmiştir.
In this project, the term conservatism which came into existence as a reaction both politically and intellectually along with the French Revolution; the development of this term in the western world and its reflections on Turkey; the relationship between conservatism and Professional organizations; The Democratic Party (DP) and conservatism in Turkish political life and in this context, the relationship (1950 – 1954 period) between conservatism and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) was aimed to investigate and evaluate. The Democratic Party that came into power with the 1950 elections started the negotiations with the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey. The Union, who is responsible for reporting to the government regarding economy and business life in line with their founding purpose, gained recognition not just domestically but overseas, as well. The Union has become one of the institutions that every organization and institutions follows by breaking the news regarding the economic growth and markets of both Turkey and the world in the Turkish Economics Gazette which is a weekly publication. The Union, which is one of the modern forms of Ahi Community that was established and acted based on traditional values, has a conservative base by members in general. It ensured that the formation of professions and the transition from agriculture to the work of craftsmen and from there to commerce to be shaped in a conservative environment. These circumstances also supported the convergence with the Democratic Party. Thanks to this, the members of the Union generally chose the Democratic Party during their transition to the political life. This is the case that can clearly be seen especially in the 1954 elections. The Democratic Party that is the representative of conservativism in political life also became the representative of people from every walk of life in the political arena due to the values that created the party itself.
