Mahmûd b. Ahmed Bedruddîn Aynî 1360 tarihinde eski adı Ayıntâb olan bugünkü adı Gaziantep şehrinde doğdu. Doğduğu yere nisbetle Aynî lakabıyla tanınmıştır. Küçük yaşlarda eğitim ve öğretime başlamış, farklı bölgelere ilmî seyahatler yapmıştır. Kudüs'te tanıştığı hocası Seyrâmî ile Kahire'ye gitmiş ve orada tasavvufa intisap etmiştir. Daha sonra tamamen yerleştiği Kahire'de dönemin önemli hocalarından ilim tahsiline devam etmiş; tarih, hadis, Arap dili belâgatı, fıkıh gibi alanlarda söz sahibi olmuştur. Yaşadığı Memlukler döneminde devletin çeşitli kademelerinde idarî, siyasî ve ilmî görevlerde bulunmuştur. Bunların içinde Kahire muhtesipliği, evkaf nazırlığı ve çeşitli medreselerde yürüttüğü müderrislik görevleri önemli bir yer tutar. Aynî, Umdetu'l-Kârî'yi 1417 yılında yazmaya başlamış, 1443 yılında bitirmiştir. Eserinde pek çok kaynaktan istifade etmiştir. Söz konusu kaynakların veya müelliflerinin isimlerini çoğunlukla belirtmiş, bazen de isim vermeden nakillerde bulunmuştur. Sahîh-i Buhârî'nin şerhleri arasında önemli bir yere sahip olan bu eser lügat, sarf, nahiv, belâgat, fıkıh, ricâl bilgisi gibi konular açısından da oldukça zengindir. Aynî, Hz. Peygamber'in hadislerinin Arapça olmasından ötürü bu dile bütün yönleri ile vakıf olmayanın hadis ilminden uzak olduğunu düşünmektedir. Bu nedenle o, eserinde hadisleri her yönüyle incelemeye tabi tutmuştur. Şerhinde aklî ve naklî metodu dengelemeye çalışmış, mukaddimesinde belirlediği şerh yöntemini eserin tamamında takip etmiştir. İlmi üslûbu gereği konuları bölümlere ayırmış, kolay anlaşılması için sayılara başvurmuş, sade ve akıcı bir dil kullanmıştır. Edebi üslubu gereği teşbih, istiare, şiir ve tekrarlara başvurmuştur. Böylece Umdetu'l-Kârî, ifadesinin güzelliği, ricale dair verdiği bilgiler, hadislerin fıkhî ahkâm açısından değerlendirilmesi gibi özellikleri ile diğer şerhlerden üstün kabul edilmiştir. Mahmud b. Ahmed Bedruddîn Ayni was born in the city of Gaziantep in 1360, the old name Ayıntâb. He was known by his nickname Ayni as relative to his birthplace. He started education and training at an early age and made scientific travels to different regions. He went to Cairo with his teacher, Seyrami, whom he met in Jerusalem, and there he appealed to Sufism. Later, he continued to collect knowledge from one of the most important teachers of his time in Cairo, where he settled completely, and had a say in the fields of history, hadith, Arabic language, and fiqh. During his period of Mamluks, he served in various levels of the state in administrative, political and scientific posts. Among them, the mayor of Cairo, the ministry of foundations and professor duties in various madrasa holds an important place. Ayni started writing Umdetu'l-Kari in 1417 and finished in 1443. He has benefited from many sources in his work. He often mentioned the names of the said sources or authors, and sometimes he made transfers without giving a name. It has an important place among the commentaries of Sahih al-Bukhari, and is very rich in terms of matters such as lexicography, sarf, syntax, rhetoric, fiqh and reporters knowledge. Because of the fact that the Hadiths of the Prophet are in Arabic, Aynî thinks that all aspects of this language are far from the knowledge of the Hadith. Therefore, he has examined the hadiths in every aspect in his work. He tried to balance the mental and the transplant method in his commentary and he followed the comments method he determined in his foreword of the book throughout his work. According to the scientific style, he divided the subjects into sections, applied to numbers for easy understanding, and used a simple and fluent language. According to its literary style, it has applied to comparison, metaphor, poetry and repetitions. So, Umdet Al-Kari, the beauty of his expression, the information it gave about the biography of the narrator, the evaluation of hadiths in terms of the provisions of jurisprudence is considered to be superior to other annotations.
