Geçtiğimiz yüzyıl dünya ekonomi tarihinde yaşanan pek çok ilginç gelişmeye şahitlik etmiştir. Bu yüzyıl ulus devletler için kesinlikle sıradan geçmemiş, tam tersine neredeyse her günü farklı bir oluşuma şahit olmuştur. Birinci Dünya Savaşı, 29 Büyük Buhranı, İkinci Dünya Savaşı, Dünya Petrol Krizi, Soğuk Savaş ve Küresel Krizler bu yüzyılın küresel ekonomik olayları olarak dünya ekonomisini şekillendirmiştir. Tüm bu oluşumların daraltıcı ekonomik sonuçları her seferinde bu yüzyılın hakim ekonomik sistemi olan kapitalist sistemle ilişkilendirilmiştir. Fakat kapitalist sistem yaşadığı her darbenin arkasından daha da güçlenerek yeniden doğmuştur. Kapitalist sistemi dünya pazarlarında destekleyen liberal dış ticaret anlayışı da, tüm bu gelişmelere rağmen, yüzyılın vazgeçilmeyen ticari felsefesi olmaya devam etmiştir. 21. yy ise, geçen yüzyılda yaşanan krizleri aratmayacak bir krizle başlamış ve Amerika orjinli 2008 Küresel Finans Krizi bu yüzyıla damgasını vurmuştur. Bu krizle birlikte gelişmiş ülkelerin büyüme oranlarında hızlı düşüşler yaşanırken, gelişmekte olan ülkelerin bir kısmında hem üretimlerinin hem de ticaretlerinin arttığı gözlenmiştir. Bu yaşananlar, dünya ticaretinde gelişmiş ülkelerin ağırlığının azalmasına, gelişmekte olan ülkelerin ağırlığının artmasına sebep olmuştur. Diğer yandan ise gelişmiş ülkeler arasındaki fikir ayrılıkları ve çıkar çatışmaları artarken, gelişmekte olan ülkeler arasında ekonomik ve ticari ilişkilerin ve birlikteliklerin arttığı gözlenmiştir. Yaşadığımız yüzyılın başlarında kurulan ve BRICS olarak isimlendirilen ekonomik birliktelik, geleceğin dünya ticaretinde söz sahibi olma olasılığı yüksek görülen bir birlikteliktir. Bu oluşumun içerisinde Brezilya, Rusya, Hindistan, Çin ve Güney Afrika yer almaktadır. BRICS tam anlamıyla kurumsal bir organizasyon haline dönüşememiştir. Fakat bu ülkeler 2008 krizi sonrasında dünya ekonomisi küçülürken, yakaladıkları ekonomik büyüme ivmesi ile oldukça dikkat çeken bir yapılanmaya imza atmışlardır. Bu nedenledir ki çalışmanın amacı; dünya ticaretinde yaşanan gelişmelerin genel bir değerlendirmesini yapmanın yanında; gelecekte dünya ticaretinde söz sahibi olacağı düşünülen BRICS ülkelerinin ve adı bu oluşumla birlikte sıkça telaffuz edilen Türkiye'nin rekabet güçlerini karşılaştırmak olarak belirlenmiştir. Türkiye'nin BRICS karşısındaki rekabet gücü STIC Rev.4 sınıflandırma sistemindeki 10 mal grubu için Balassa tarafından geliştirilen Açıklanmış Karşılaştırmalı Üstünlükler İndeksi (Revealed Comparative Advantages – RCA)'çerçevesinde ölçülmüştür. Çalışmada kullanılan ticari veriler Birleşmiş Milletlerin resmi internet sitesinde yayımlanan istatistiklerden (UN Comtrade Database ) elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen RCA sonuçları, Türkiye'nin BRICS ülkeleri karşısındaki rekabet avantajının her mal grubu ve her ülke için büyük farklılıklar gösterdiğini anlatmaktadır. Türkiye sadece 'Gıda ve Canlı Hayvanlar Mal Grubu'nda tüm BRICS ülkeleri karşısında tam bir rekabet avantajı yakalamaktadır. Bu mal grubu aynı zamanda Türkiye'nin uzmanlaşma alanını göstermektedir. Ayrıca Türkiye'nin incelenen 10 mal grubu içerisinde, Brezilya karşısında 8, Güney Afrika karşısında 6, Rusya karşısında 5, Hindistan ve Çin karşısında ise 4 mal grubunda rekabet gücünün olduğu görülmektedir.
The Past century has witnessed many interesting developments in World economic history. This century has never been common for nation-states, but on the contrary, it has witnessed a different formation almost every day. The First World War, the Great Depression of 29, the Second World War, the World Oil Crisis, the Cold War and the Global Crisis have shaped the world economy as global economic events of this century. The contradictory economic consequences of all these occurrences have always been associated with the capitalist system, the dominant economic system of this century. But the capitalist system has been reborn after every coup it had been through. The liberal foreign trade concept which supports the capitalist system in world markets has continued to be the indispensable business philosophy of the century despite all these developments. On the other hand, 21st century started with a crisis which wouldn't be a substitute for the last century, and the 2008 Global Economic Crisis the origin of which is America has marked itself to this century. With this crisis, while the growth rates of developed countries experienced rapid decreases, it was observed that both production and trade has increased in some developing countries. This has led to a decrease in the weight of the developed countries in the world trade and an increase in the weight of the developing countries. On the other hand, it has been observed that, while the privileges and conflicts of opinion between the developed countries increased, the economic and commercial relations and the associations between the developing countries increased. Founded in the beginning of the century and named as BRICS economic union, the future of the world trade in the world is likely to have a say in the association. This formation includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. BRICS has not been fully transformed into a corporate organization. However, after the crisis in 2008, the world economy has shrunk and they have achieved a remarkable structure with the acceleration of economic growth. Therefore, the aim of the study; besides making a general evaluation of the developments in world trade; has been set to compare the competitive powers of the BRICS countries which are thought to be an arbiter in the future of the world trade and Turkey whose name is often pronounced with this organization. Turkey's competitive power against BRICS, has been measured within the framework of Revealed Comparative Advantages Index which was developed by Balassa for 10 asset groups within the STIC Rev.4 classification system. The commercial data used in the study was obtained from the statistics published on the official website of the United Nations. (UN Comtrade Database) The obtained results of RCA, told that the competitive advantage of Turkey against the BRICS countries vary greatly for each product group and for every country. Turkey only gains a complete competitive advantage against all BRICS countries in "Food and Live Animals Asset Group". This asset group also shows Turkey's expertise area. Also, within the 10 examined groups in Turkey, Turkey has 8 competitive overpowering against Brazil, 6 against Russia and 4 against India and China.
