Avrupa'nın, Hıristiyanlık, uygarlık vb. değerlerle oluşturmaya çalıştığı Avrupalılık kimliği, Türkiye'nin Avrupa Birliği üyeliği ile krize dönüşmüştür. Yüzyıllardır tehdit ve öteki imajı kurgulanarak oluşturulmaya çalışılan Avrupalılık kimliği, Türkiye'nin üyeliğinin söz konusu olması ile zorlu bir sürece girmiştir. Bu nedenle Avrupa Konstrüktivizmde vurgulanan ben- öteki kurgusu üzerine yoğunlaşarak Türkiye ile Avrupa arasında var olduğuna inandığı farklılıkları öne çıkarmaktadır. Ancak öne sürülen bu farklılıklar yalnızca kimliğe ve AB- Türkiye ilişkilerine etki etmemekte aynı zamanda İslamofobinin artmasına da neden olmaktadır. Avrupa'nın Kimlik inşası sürecinde kullandığı ben- öteki vurgusu Avrupa'da önemli bir kamuoyu oluşturmakta ve Batılı hafızalarda var olan olumsuz İslam- Müslüman algılarının medyada, seçim propagandalarında, ekonomik ve sosyal alanda ön plana çıkmasına yol açmaktadır. Bunun sonucunda hem hafızalardaki olumsuz İslam- Müslüman algısı hem de Avrupa'nın yaşadığı kimlik krizi İslamofobinin günümüzdeki etkilerini artırmaktadır. Bu durum ise yarım asırdan fazladır devam eden üyelik sürecini etkilemekte ve ilerleyen dönemler için Türkiye tarafında kaygıların oluşmasına yol açmaktadır. Avrupa'nın ben ve öteki temelli oluşturmaya çalıştığı kimlik, Türkiye'nin AB ile ilişkilerine, İslamofobiye ve AB'nin genişleme sürecine etki ettiğinden İslamofobinin ve Türkiye'nin AB üyelik sürecinde karşılaştığı engelleyici nedenlerin arka planının araştırılması ihtiyacı doğmaktadır. Christianity, civilization and other values that Europe has been working to create its identity with, has turned into an identity crisis with Turkey's membership in the European Union. For centuries, the threats and the term '' the others'' that European identity has been trying to create, have put Turkey's membership in the EU in a difficult and challenging period. Therefore, the fiction of ''me-others'' in the constructivism, is putting forward those ''differences'' between Turkey and Europe. Nevertheless, these differences are not just affecting the identity or the relations between Turkey and EU, but it is also being a reason behind the increase of Islamophobia. The term ''me-others'' which is been used during the identity construction, has an important role in forming the public opinion. Furthermore, it leads to using the negative perceptions about Islam and Muslims -which already exists in the Western mind- in the media, elections propaganda, economic and social fields. As a result of that, those negative perceptions about Islam and Muslims and the identity crisis experienced in Europe, are increasing the current effects of Islamophobia. . In this case, Turkey's membership process in the EU which has been continuing for more than a half century, is being affected by those perceptions leading to anxiety in Turkey regarding the membership in the EU. Since the European identity which Europe is working on is based on ''I and the others'' term has affected Turkey's relations with the EU, the enlargement process of the EU and the expanding of Islamophobia, it is important to investigate the reasons behind the prohibitive requirements facing Turkey regarding the latter's membership in the EU process Keywords: Identity, Culture, Islamophobia, Constructivist, European Union, Turkey, Expansion Process, Public Opinion.
