Amaç: Çalışmamız; yaşlı kadınlarda obezitenin fiziksel fonksiyon ve yaşam kalitesine etkilerinin incelenmesi amacıyla planlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya Isparta ilinde yaşayan 90 yaşlı kadın dâhil edilmiştir. Olgular vücut kütle indeksine (VKİ) göre; 20 kg/m² ile 24.9 kg/m² arası normal (I. grup), 25.0 kg/m² ile 29.9 kg/m² arası kilolu (II. grup), 30 kg/m²'nin üzeri obez (III. grup) olacak şekilde gruplara ayrılmıştır. Yaşlı bireylerin fiziksel aktivite düzeyi 'Physical Activity Scale for Elderly' (PASE) ile, fiziksel performansları kısa fiziksel performans test bataryası ile, yaşam kalitesi SF-12 ile, fonksiyonel mobiliteleri süreli kalk ve yürü testi (SKYT) ile, fonksiyonel limitasyon düzeyleri ise bireylerin bazı günlük yaşam aktivitelerinde yaşadıkları zorlukları sorgulayan bir skala ile belirlenmiştir. Bulgular: Olguların yaş ortalaması 69,15± 4.37 yıl'dır. PASE ve fiziksel performans test skorları I. grupta hem II. hem de III. gruba göre, II. grupta ise III. gruba göre yüksek bulunmuştur (p<0,05). I. gruptaki olguların hem II. hem de III. gruptaki olgulara göre, II. gruptaki olguların da III. gruptaki olgulara göre SKYT skorlarının istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde düşük olduğu tespit edilmiştir (p˂0,05). Gruplara göre fonksiyonel limitasyon puanları ise III. grupta, I.ve II. gruba göre daha yüksek bulunmuştur (p˂0,05). Gruplar arasında yaşam kalitesi skorları açısından anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmamıştır (p>0,05). SKYT skoru ile; fonksiyonel limitasyon arasında pozitif yönlü güçlü (r: ,568), fiziksel performans skoru arasında negatif yönlü güçlü (r: -,646), PASE puanı arasında ise negatif yönlü zayıf (r: -,213) ilişki bulunmuştur. Fonksiyonel limitasyon ile fiziksel performans (r: -,268) ve PASE puanı (r: -,432) arasında negatif yönlü orta düzeyde ilişki bulunmuştur. VKİ'nin; Fiziksel Performans ile negatif yönlü güçlü (r: -,591), PASE ile negatif yönlü orta düzeyde (r: -,427), SKYT (r: ,418) ve Fonksiyonel Limitasyon ile (r: ,335) pozitif yönlü orta düzeyde korelasyon gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. VKİ ile SF-12 Fiziksel ve Mental alt ölçekleri arasında ise anlamlı bir korelasyon saptanmamıştır. Sonuç: Yaşlılarda vücut kütle indeksi arttıkça; fiziksel aktivite, fiziksel performans ve fonksiyonel mobilite düzeyleri azalmakta, fonksiyonel limitasyon düzeyi ise artmaktadır. Purpose (Objective): The purpose of our study was to investigate the effects of obesity on physical function and quality of life in elderly women. Materials and Methods: 90 elderly women living in Isparta province participated in the study. Participants were classified according to body mass index (BMI) as; 20 kg / m² to24.9 kg / m² normal (Ist group), 25.0 kg / to 29.9 kg / m² overweight (II nd group) and over 30 kg / m² obese (IIIrd group). Physical activity level of the elderly individuals were assessed by the Physical Activity Scale for Elderly (PASE), physical performance with the short physical performance test battery (SPPT), quality of life with SF-12, functional mobility with timed up and go test (TUG) and functional limitations were determined by a scale that questioning the difficulties of individuals' experience in their daily activities. Results: The average age of the cases were 69.15 ± 4.37 years. PASE and SPPT scores were higher in the first group than both group II and III, second group's scores were higher than the III rd group (p <0.05). First group's TUG scores were significantly lower than both group II and III, second group's TUG scores were significantly lower compared to III rd group (p˂0.05). According to the groups; functional limitations were found to be higher in third group than group I and II (p˂0.05). There were no significant difference between the groups in terms of quality of life scores (p>0.05). TUG showed positively strong correlation with functional limitation scores (r: -0.568), negatively strong correlation with physical performance (r:-0.646) and negatively weak correlation with PASE scores (r: -0.213). Functional limitation were negatively correlated with physical performance (r: -0.432) and PASE (r: -0.268) scores. BMI demonstrated negatively strong correlation with physical performance (r: -0.591), negatively moderate correlation with PASE (r: -0.427), positively moderate correlation with TUG (r: 0.418) and functional limitation (r: 0.335).There were no significant correlation between BMI and SF-12 Physical and Mental subscales. Conclusion: As the body mass index increases in the elderly; physical activity, physical performance and functional mobility levels decreased, however, functional limitation levels increased.
