Amaç: Hashimoto tiroiditi (HT) gibi çeşitli sistemik hastalıklar ve tedavileri tükürük bezi fonksiyonunu değiştirir. HT olan hastalarda ve sağlıklı çocuklarda ağız sağlığı durumunu değerlendirmeyi ve karşılaştırmayı amaçladık. Metot: Anti-tiroid peroksidaz yüksekliği ve ultrasonda heterojenite varlığı ile HT tanısı alan 30 hasta (ortalama yaş 15,3±2,0 yıl) ile yaş ortalaması ve cinsiyeti benzer 30 sağlıklı gönüllü çocuk çalışmaya alınmıştır. Çalışmaya dahil olan tüm adölesanlardan, serbest T4 (sT4), tiroid stimülan hormon (TSH), tiroid peroksizomal antikor (Anti-TPO), glukoz, insülin, alanino aminotransferaz (ALT), trigliserit, total kolesterol, yüksek dansiteli lipoprotein (HDL) ve düşük dansiteli lipoprotein (LDL) kolesterol, adrenokortikotropik hormon (ACTH), kortizol, kalsiyum düzeyleri belirlendi. Periodontal muayenede cep derinliği, gingival indeks, plak indeksi, sondlama sırasında kanama varlığı değerlendirildi. Salya ve dişeti oluğu sıvısı (DOS) alınarak oksidatif stres belirteçleri çalışıldı. Bulgular: Anti-TPO ve TSH açısından HT ve kontrol grubu arasında istatiksel olarak fark tespit edildi. Dişeti oluğu sıvısı ve salya total oksidan seviye (TOS) düzeyleri ve salya oksidatif stres indeksi (OSİ), HT grubunda yüksekti ama istatiksel olarak farklılık tespit edilmedi. Gruplar arasında periodontal parametreler ve oksidatif stres parametreler için istatiksel olarak fark tespit edilmedi. Periodontal parametreler açısından anlamlı fark tespit edilmedi. Sonuç: Salya ve DOS'da OSİ düzeylerinin HT olan grupta yüksek olmasına rağmen istatiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmaması periodontal hasar sürecinin başladığını ve patogenezde ileri dönemde devam eden sürecin periodontal hastalıkla sonlanacağını düşündürmektedir. Aim: Various systemic diseases and their treatment alter the salivary gland function; one such disease is Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT). We assessed and compare the oral health status of children with HT and healthy children. Methods: 30 patients (mean age 15,3±2,0 years) diagnosed as HT had high thyroid peroxidase antibody and heterogeneity in thyroid ultrasound and age and sex matched 30 healthy volunteers childrens we enrolled the study. All the adolescents included in the study were determined to have serum levels of free T4 (fT4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroid peroxisomal antibody (Anti-TPO), glucose, insulin, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), triglyceride, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), cortisol and calcium. Periodontal examination revealed probing depth, gingival index, plaque index, and presence of bleeding during probing. Saliva and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) were taken and oxidative stress markers were studied. Results: Statistically significant difference was observed between HT and control group with respect to Anti-TPO (p=0,001) and TSH (p=0,001). Gingival Crevicular Fluids and salivary TOS and salivary oxidative stress indexi (OSİ) values were higher in the HT group compared with control group but there were no significant mean measurement. There were no significant mean measurement for periodontal parameters. Conclusion: Although OSİ levels in saliva and DOS were high in the group with HT, there was no statistically significant difference in the periodontal damage process, there is no significant difference in the early period due to age and it is suggested that the process that is going on in the future in the pathogenesis will end with periodontal disease.
