Türkiye'de meydana gelen depremler ve depremlerin neden olduğu can ve mal kayıplarının minimum seviyeye düşürülmesi için riskli yapıların tespit edilmesi gereklidir. Çalışmada Tunceli İli örnek seçilerek riskli yapılar tespit edilmiş ve mevcut durum değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışma bölge insanının gelecekte yaşayabileceği olası can ve mal kaybının önüne geçmesi yönünden önemlidir. Bu amaçla, Çevre Şehircilik Bakanlığı Altyapı ve Kentsel dönüşüm Hizmetleri Genel Müdürlüğünün çıkardığı Afet riski altındaki Alanların Dönüştürülmesi hakkındaki kanun kapsamında Tunceli ilinde halkının istekleri doğrultusunda mevcut yapı stoku içindeki yapıların risk tespiti oranları belirlenmiş ve belirlenen bu oranlara bakılarak risk değerlendirmesi yapılmıştır. Çalışma alanı olarak Tunceli merkez ve ilçeleri Hozat, Pertek, Çemişgezek, Nazimiye, Pülümür, Mazgirt ve Ovacık ilçeleri seçilmiştir. Yapılan tespitler sonucunda risk oran değerlerine bakarak mevcut yapıların güçlendirme çalışması yapılmasına ya da yıkılıp yerlerine yeni projeler uygulanmasına karar verilmiştir.
