Günümüzde bellek, bellek-mekân ilişkisi üzerinde önemle durulan araştırma konuları haline gelmiştir. Mekânlar, toplumsal belleğin oluşmasında ve devamında bireyin toplumla kurduğu ilişkilerin gerçeklendiği kritik alanlardır. Bellek bir canlının hayatı boyunca gördüğü, duyduğu, öğrendiği herşeyin depolandığı yer olarak açıklanmaktadır. Kent Belleği için ise kentin yaşayan, değişen, sürekliliği olan bir olgu olduğu çıkarımı ve yukarıdaki bellek tanımından yola çıkarak, tüm gelişmiş canlılar gibi kentlerinde beyni ve belleği vardır, bu bellekten yararlanma düzeyi kentlerin gelişim biçimini derinden etkiler demek mümkündür. Mekânsal bellek, mekânın insanlar üzerinde oluşturduğu algı ve anlamlandırmalarla ilişkilidir. Geçmişi MÖ 500 yıllarına dayanan Eğirdir kenti yakından incelendiğinde özellikle net belgelere ulaşılabilen son 800 yıllık süreçte zaman zaman yaşanan idari, ekonomik ve sosyal değişikliklere rağmen kent dokusunda ve kimliğinde çok ciddi değişimlerden söz etmek mümkün değildir. Aksine kentin son derece durağan bir süreçten geçtiğini söylemek mümkündür. Ancak Cumhuriyet döneminde özellikle 1950'li yıllardan itibaren kentte ortaya çıkan, devlet yatırımları, yeni ulaşım olanakları, yaşanan afetler, zirai faaliyetlerdeki gelişmeler gibi faktörler çok kısa zaman içerisinde kent belleğinde ve dokusunda ciddi değişikliklere yol açmıştır. Gerçekleştirilen çalışmanın amacı da kentte meydana gelen bu değişim ve dönüşümlerin belgelenmesi, kent formuna ve mimari eserlere etkisi ve bu faktörlerin kentte yaşanan yer-mekân kimlik değişimlerine etkisinin tespit edilmesidir. Çalışma kapsamında kentsel mekân ve kent belleği arasındaki birbirini üreten ilişki üzerinden Cumhuriyet döneminde Eğirdir kenti mekânsal bellek değişimi geçmiş ve günümüz görsel ve yazılı kayıtları incelenmiş, sözlü tarih görüşmeleri ile onların sürece tanıklıkları ve zamana bağlı olarak değişen kentle olan ilişkileri ortaya konmaya çalışılmış, mekânsal belleği oluşturan bileşenler, günümüze ulaşan ve ulaşamayan imaj öğeleri, bunların kentsel mekân ve kent belleğindeki yeri tartışılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı Lynch'in kuramı vasıtası ile Eğirdir kentinin tarihsel süreçteki mekânsal değişimini analiz etmek, elde edilen tarihi görsel ve yazılı belgeleri gün ışığına çıkarmak ve ilerleyen zamanda kentte uygulanacak yeni tasarımlar için de kaynak olması amaçlanmaktadır.
Memory, memory-space, memory-time relationships have become important research topics in recent times. Places are the critical areas in which social memory is formed and the relationships established by the individuals in society.Memory is described as the place where a living creature sees, hears, and learns throughout life. For the memory of the city, it is possible to say that the city is a living, changing and continuing phenomenon, and from the definition of memory above, there are minds and memories in cities as in all developed societies. The phenomenon of urban memory can be defined as a concept that affects the image of the city and is shaped by physical, cultural, socioeconomic, historical and formal factors, each of which has its own characteristics. Spatial memory is related to the perceptions and meanings of space created by people. It is not possible to mention very serious changes in the city and its identity despite the administrative, economic and social changes occasionally experienced over the past 800 years in Eğirdir city (established 500 bc) especially. On the contrary, it is possible to say that the city passed through a very static process. However, factors such as state investments, new transportation facilities, disasters, developments in agriculture activities that have emerged in the city since the 1950's, especially in the Republic of Turkey period, have caused very serious changes in the city's memory and its structure in a very short time. The aim of the study is to document the changes and transformations that took place in the city, which includes influence to the urban form and architectural works, and the effect of these factors on the change of space-place identity in the city. In the study, Eğirdir's past and present spatial memory, visual and written records of the town during Republic of Turkey period has revealed the relationship between urban space and urban memory. The effects of changes on the urban memory and identity were tried to be revealed. This work utilizes Kevin Lynch's image theory for urban analysis. The aim of the study is to bring out the obtained historical and visual documents, and to be an alternative resource for new designs to be applied to the city in the future.
